Son of a Gun by Anne de Graaf
This book is so slight, yet it says so much about feelings. Young people are forced to take up arms in civil wars in parts of Africa. You would think they would be harmed forever, but there is hope of rehabilitation----if they don't die first. The writing is so insightful and lyrical, that it is a pleasure to read, even though the subject matter is dark and foreboding. We read it for a book club selection and I highly recommend it. Anne de Graaf is a talented and special person, who just happens to be a writer!
