If You Were a Synonym (Word Fun)

I shared this book with my six-year old granddaughter and she immediately wanted to play the game at the end in which you take turns thinking up words that mean the same thing. The book doesn't do anything to show, for example, that words that mean "cold" have different connotations, but when I asked her which of the words made her feel coldest she could rank them. So, this is a good introduction to helping kids become more creative in their word choices when they write.

Enjoyable, teachable book to introduce synonyms.

Some of the words in the this book do mean the same thing and clearly so, but others did not. Like when they used a lot of words to describe the same activity of sledding but none of the words really meant the same thing like zipped (going fast) and plunged (going downhill). So I think that could cause some confusion.

I loved this book as a resource for teaching what synonyms are. Several teachers in my building have borrowed it to use in their lessons as well.

Super fun way to teach synonyms! Love this series of books by this author!

Synonym words are important to understand in order to have a grasp of language. This is a fun book to study synonyms to make writing more descriptive.
