BEAUTIFUL BOOK, MEMORABLE STORIES!
I read these stories to my grandkids when they were young so was happy to find the book still in print. They're adults now with kids of their own. They recently mentioned how much they had loved these wonderful, imaginative folk tales and remembered their favorite ones. Now I will read those same stories to my great grandchildren and make even more lovely memories!

Favorite
This was my favorite book growing up and I want to pass it down to my daughters and hope they have a love for reading as this book has given me. The culture and the adventure this books takes you is unmatched. Great read from start to finish.

A fine collection of stories
There is an eclectic mix of stories here that allows for them to offer something for everyone. My daughter likes some and wonders about others, and that's fine. I remember story time when I was little and the books that did this to me. I sought them out again, multiple times, when I became older and could understand more. It brought me great joy and I expect that the same will be true for my daughter. It's even better that the authors will be more similar and relevant for her than they were for me growing up.

Amazing book
I’ve loved this book since my childhood! I was so happy to see it was available on Amazon, that I bought it as a birthday gift for my 10yr old niece. The stories are unique, and the illustrations are beautiful and detailed. Highly recommend.

Invaluable to Young African Girls
I originally bought this book for myself in an effort to feel more in touch with my roots. I was so amazed at the beauty of the illustrations and the deep cultural significance of the stories. There were one or two that I wonder why they were included in the book, such as "MerWoman in the Sea". Maybe I was being dense but I did not see why the tale was all that special, especially compared to a lot of the other stories. Anway, I passed this on to my younger sister so that she could see beautiful princesses that looked like her. I think it was great for both of us to see that.

Passing Stories Along
"Toads and Diamonds" was one of my favorite fairy tales! Virginia Hamilton has aversion in "Her Stories" tilted "Good Blache,, Bad Rose, and the Talking Eggs" within the first few lines I recognized it immediately! one favorite fairy tale preserved! From my research "Toads and Diamonds" appears to be from 1687 while "The Talking Eggs" is from the late 1800's, Making this not a case of cultural appropriation, but a case of cultural evolution!
