Jacob Lawrence (Getting to Know the World's Greatest Artists: Previous Editions)

This series is wonderful. My grandsons love every one and know way more than I do about artists and composers. They request those they don't already have. Visiting an art museum with them is thrilling because of their pleasure in sharing their knowledge. They are 6 and 5 and have loved this series for at least a year. I highly recommend this book or any other in these informational and enjoyable series. Adults like reading them also.

I was surprised that these were still on the market. I bought many of the Venezia books for my nieces and nephews years ago.The price has stayed the same over the years. These are a great buy and the selections are endless.

Getting to Know the World's Greatest Artists, Jacob Lawrence is a nice edition in this fantastic collection by Mike Venezia. These books are perfect for exposing elementary and junior high aged students to a large variety of artists and styles of art.While I'm not a fan of Jacob Lawrence's art, I do appreciate his subject matter: African American History. During Jacob's time black history was not often taught at school. Not allowing young people an opportunity to learn about their past makes it harder for them to feel pride in their culture and in turn themselves; Jacob Lawrence worked to change that.

Basically, a very nice brochure. Good for a pre-high schooler, not worth $7.
