Excellent Book
A great book about cross-cultural leadership. There are a lot of helpful suggestions and ideas, and I particularly found the matrices of teams helpful. His emphasis of giving up of control while being a leader, as well as the emphasis of giving up control. Those are important perspectives for the leader as he or she seeks to lead in the Spirit. I also appreciated the distinction of “responsible to” and “responsible for”.That said, I found the case studies to be one dimensional, and sometimes did not reflect the complexities I have faced as a cross cultural leader. I would have appreciated more emphasis on the balance between covenantal relationships and achieving results, and the need of a leader to sometimes make hard personnel decisions. Those situations are, however, less common than the tendency for the leader to be controlling, and so I understand, and sympathize with the authors emphasis.

Practical, excellent biblical resource that takes a fresh look at cross cultural leadership.
This work provides excellent handles for helping lead cross cultural ministry teams. Even though I did not agree with all of the authors points, even the points of disagreement stoked a lot of thought and conversation that was very helpful for me and my team .

Must read for Christian leaders
This text is a quick and inspiring read. it really highlights cross-cultural areas where leaders can grow stronger. Some of the advice is life-changing. An example of this is how the author reminds his audience that we are responsible to people and not for people. This means that we have a responsibility to help, uplift, and love others. We do not have the responsibility to make them act in a certain way or do certain things. This book was uplifting, freeing, and, I believe, a must-read for Christian leaders.

Thank you for writing this book!!!
I don't usually write public book reviews and most certainly I have better things to do past midnight but I just had to log on and promote this book a FIVE stars. And I'm feeling a bit preachy about how encouraging this book is for me so bear with me...Book is comprised of lessons from various oversea cross-cultural missions but these lessons don't necessarily have to be applied overseas or cross-cultural. In this day and age of globalization, it's really hard not to find ourselves in a silo environment. With each example or case study discussed, I reflected on my personal account when I worked overseas for an IT company and I wish I had read this prior to the trip. Here are some powerful topics of wisdom:o Power-Giving vs Power-Seeking relationshipso Risk of releasing control vs Gaining trust and faitho Responsible-to vs Responsible-for behaviorso Biblical "form" vs Biblical "leadership"o Task oriented vs Covenant based teamsI am planning to read this again at a slower pace and reflect on its applications in my life today. Thank you!

Small, yet Substantive Volume
Like the other volumes in the series, Leading provides valuable insights from an experienced, field tested leader who is unapologetically Christian. Lingenfelter offers the unique perspective of a trained anthropologist to complement his heart for Intercultural ministry. The case studies demonstrate the cultural frustrations which can develop even in the midst of good intentions and shared intercultural ministries. As a university professor using this text in the classroom, I recommend this small but substantive volume to you. Practical insights which he provides would be well worth reading, even for those with cross-cultural experience but little training in anthropology.

Cross-cultural Leadership demands covenant relationship
Tremendous read! Informative and true to the scriptural narrative of the cross, both Christ’s and ours. When we love in covenantal ways we will see with Christ’s eyes and respect each other. Lingenfelter conveys a vision for cross cultural leadership that is biblical and vital.

One of the best
Lingenfelter's book is one of the best I've read on mission leadership. It provides a framework that captures the best of leadership theory and matches it with solid cross-cultural dimensions of ministry. As the world becomes more globalized in nature yet nationalistic in perspective, this book provides a set of terrific case studies to help global leaders deal with the realities of global leadership today. In particular, Lingenfelter's reliance on scripture as a model for effective leading is most instructive and his personal examples give pragmatic handles for leaders to understand what he presents.Hopefully, the book will stir even more fruitful research and dialog on leadership today.
