VAUDEUnisex's Moab Mid STX Mountain Biking Shoes

A properly waterproof riding shoe has been on my wishlist for years. I thought these would be worth a punt after reading review in Singletrack magazine. Very pleased that I did. Have had about 3 months of winter riding so far - including several weeks of frost/snow (coldest January for 10 years here in Scotland).Waterproof ? Yes. These are properly waterproof and with merino socks have been warm in sub-zero conditions.Fit? - am usually 42 or 43, but 43 was best fit. Feel a bit bulky around ankle at first, but not an issue when pedalling. Like the added support from the strap.Grip? Excellent - I would say entirely comparable to my 5:10 Freerider Pros. Very impressed. And for walking, work reasonably well in mud etc (the heel and toe tread is deeper than mid foot).The only thing I don't like is the blue colour...but when covered in mud it doesn't matter...Despite the high cost I am inclined to give a 5 star rating. Easily the best winter (and spring/autumn ?) MTB shoe I have had. I reckon on using these for 5/6 months of the year and my 5:10s for the warmer/drier months.

I was bought these at Christmas but I looked them out first and sent the link to my son.I wanted high top mtb shoes and wipe down outer shell but not at the mtb recommended revue site prices. I mtb in all conditions, Fives are good but when wet there not so good and they were constantly wet even with wp socks, it was a pain drying them.If you are a serious mtb rider these are a revaluation at this price. I have wide feet and normally a UK 8, I opted for 9.5 uk and very happy with the fit and width. Excellent flat pedal soul platform and right amount of rigid and flex. Maybe not as sticky souls as Fives but I can live with that and wind the pins out more on the pedals. I have been using them for over a month now in all the crappy weather, they clean off easy and because of the outer shell material, they don't soak up water as my others did and the high top keeps the crud out. I will recommend them on style function or even non mtb use.

Good:Good grip on flat pedalsComfy to ride and walk inwarm but ventilated waterproof and well protected.good ankle supportNo so good:A little on the small size, I ordered a half size bigger than my usual size and they are a cosy fit but definitly would have been too tight if I ordered my usual size.No gater, so water, mud and stones get into the shoe easily from the the top around the ankle, no problem if your pants go over the top of the shoe, but a little dissapointing in a £150 pair of shoes. Shimano, northwave, Oneil, specialised etc, all have gaters at this price point.

First up I had to have two shots at getting the correct size. I'm normally a UK 11 (EU 45) in a regular shoe but for any shoes that I know, I'll be wearing thicker socks with I go up half a size (11.5 / 46) so that was what I initially ordered. Even without thick socks on my big toe was pressing against the front of the shoe so I sent these back and ordered a 12 (EU 47). I've never purchased a 12 in my life.These fit but still feel a little tight but I'm hoping they will stretch slightly and become more comfortable in time. Because of the high ankle getting them on is no quick task and needs care to get them to fit and be comfortable. I've found using an old fashioned shoehorn helps. Once on they support your ankle really well and cycling with them is really good - very safe and sure-footed.I have a view of what 100?% waterproof means and I'm afraid these shoes don't match that. Having worn them a few times on dry rides, today was the first time in the wet. It wasn't a particularly wet day - just some typical Scottish fine rain driven by some strong winds. It wasn't long before I felt my feet becoming uncomfortable and by the end of the ride stepping off the bike, I could hear my feet squelching inside the boots. 150 quid for that! I can't really recommend these.

Absolut überzeugende Schuhe für die kalte Jahreszeit. Sie sind wasserdicht und halten mit Merinosocken oder Wärmeeinlagen auch bei Minusgraden schön warm. Der Grip auf den Pedalen ist super.

Normal in size at least for my feet. Good protection and good waterproofing. Been out riding in wet and a bit cold conditions (+5C) and feet stayed dry and warm with thin socks.Sole is a bit on the harder side and more compared to Shimano GR line than 5-10's. Good grip when you need to walk in wet and muddy conditions.So all in all a very good shoe for wet conditions during spring and autumn. If you have mild winters (above +0C) I think they will do as winter shoes too without thicker socks.

Ho rimandato l'acquisto di queste scarpe per troppo tempo, una volta che mi sono deciso hanno soddisfatto perfettamente tutte le mie aspettative.Sono molto ben costruite, solide, calde ed impermeabili, con una vestibilità molto avvolgente, che copre fin sopra la caviglia. La chiusura a velcro è ottima per evitare aperture o smollamenti della chiusura a stringa ed anche per bloccare i lacci delle stringhe.Ottima presa sui PIN dei flat, la parte centrale della suola offre un grip eccezionale. Le due estremità della suola invece aiutano molto nei tratti camminati.Ci vuole un po' di tempo per smollarle, inizialmente sono un po' rigide, io ci ho fatto 4 uscite prima di sentirle morbide.Consigliato a chiunque cerchi una scarpa per pedali flat invernale. Va molto bene anche nella neve.

Nachdem ich bei Schönwetter-Fahrten bereits mit der flachen Version (VAUDE Men's AM Moab syn.) sehr zufrieden bin, habe ich mir für Fahrten bei schlechtem Wetter diese höhere Variante mit Nässeschutz-Membran (VAUDE Moab Mid STX) gekauft. Der Schuh ist überraschend bequem sowohl zum Radfahren als auch zum Gehen. Das Leder ist wasserabweisend und die Sympatex Membran soll zusätzlich vor Nässe schützen. Ob sie das in der Praxis tut, musste sie bisher noch nicht beweisen, aber zumindest führt sie auch nach mehreren Stunden bei milden Temperaturen nicht zu schwitzenden Füßen. (Bei starkem Regen oder tiefen Pfützen dringt Wasser in jeden Schuh von oben ein, sofern der Bund nicht durch Stulpen oder durch eine Regenhose von oben geschützt ist. Das kann kein Schuh vermeiden.)Die Sohlen haften sehr gut auf Flat Pedals und verhaken sich nicht so unglücklich in den Pins der Pedale, wie es die Sohlen normaler Lauf-, Wander- oder anderer Sportschuhe tun. Auch für Standard-Pedale ohne Cleats sind die Sohlen gut geeignet. Auch beim Laufen auf befestigten und unbefestigten Wegen habe ich mit diesen Sohlen beste Erfahrungen gemacht. (Wer allerdings sein Rad einen nassen, unbefestigten Hang hochtragen möchte, braucht eher ein Bergschuh-Profil, dass sich jedoch auf Pedalen nicht gut verhält.)Die Frage nach der Passform lässt sich nicht pauschal beantworten. Wer diesen Schuh bei kühler Witterung mit dickeren Socken tragen möchte, sollte ohnehin eine Nummer größer wählen als bei Sommer-Slippern. Mir passen sie in der gleichen Größe, in der mir auch die meisten Sport- oder Wanderschuhe passen. Sie sind im Zehen-Bereich nicht zu schmal und lassen sich am Mittelfuß mit der Schnürung gut an schmale bis normal breite Füße anpassen.Die Schnürsenkel werden von einer Klett-Schlaufe über dem Fußrücken fixiert und können sich dadurch nicht leicht lösen oder in der Fahrradkette verfangen.Mir fällt bisher nichts auf, was man an einem Allwetter Flat Pedal Schuh besser lösen könnte. Für Schönwetter-Fahrten genügt allerdings die leichtere, niedrige Version, die sowohl mit Gewebe (vgl. oben) als auch mit geöltem Leder als Obermaterial erhältlich ist. Bei diesen ist die Gewebe-Version etwas luftiger aber auch nach staubigen Fahrten nicht so leicht zu reinigen wie die Version aus Leder.
