Great starter book!
Absolutely adorable simple read for our 1st grader. We wanted a through enough book to teach her about our chickens and was happy she could read most of it herself to us. Would recommend to others starting flocks with kids.

Really great read
Great book to teach my kids about keeping backyard chicks. From the cover I thought it would be 80's ish, but it is very cool and modern layout inside. All my kids 12,8,2,&7mo. enjoyed reading and looking at the pictures.

Great for young urban farmers
A great book for young urban and suburban farmers who are just starting out. We've had chickens for about 7 months and found this to be a great resource, and on the right level for our daughters.

Excellent Kid-Friendly Book
What an excellent little book... all about being a Chicken Farmer! At 32 pages you won't get all the ins-and-outs a professional might need, but this little book definitely has a great deal of information for children who are interested in chickens.YOUNG CHICKEN FARMERS starts out, thankfully, with some things that children and adults ought to consider before taking on a chicken project. It's not all egg collecting after all. There are buildings to construct and chores to do. And the author even has a special block for adults talking about things like zoning laws. After that she talks about how different varieties of chickens have different personalities, and different colored eggs. Buying chickens, setting up an indoor space for chicks, coops and feed and watering, are all covered in good order. The photos in this YOUNG CHICKEN FARMERS are cheerful and kid-friendly. And I think this would be an excellent book to share with children. With very young children you could look at the pictures of cute chicks and chickens and talk about colors and finding eggs. With slightly older children there is so much more to discuss. Predators and housing and feeding; evolution, and even responsibility. So if you or one of yours is interested in chickens this is definitely a book that I would recommend you consider buying. There's just a lot of information, and plenty to appreciate and learn.Pam T~mom, fur-mom, and chicken-farmer wannabe

{my thoughts} – This book was a good read with my children. It helped them to learn more about chickens from egg hatching to helping them grow and lay their own ages. My 10 year old enjoyed learning the different colors of eggs that can be laid by different kinds of chickens. My 8 year old enjoyed reading the little skits that were written on the pictures and my 7 year old enjoyed the same as my 10 year old.I had decided to read this book to them because they actually have baby chicks in their classrooms at school that they were waiting to hatch before Spring Break. I am assuming they have hatched by now, but I thought it would be nice to give them a little more insight on the whole baby chick and hatching and helping to raise them concept.I am assuming they thought it was going to be neat to see them hatch or to mess with them after. But I also think now that they have this information, they have a different perspective. This book was very informative and is a wonderful book for any child that wants to learn more about baby chicks.

We have chickens and my daughters love caring for them
We have chickens and my daughters love caring for them. This book was a instant hit when I shared it with them. My middle daughter used this book to help her remember facts for her chicken 4-H project and ended up getting a blue ribbon in her age category for her knowledge. The pictures are bright and cheerful and really make the book fun.
