I have had several different smokers. Mostly the inexpensive ones you will find at Wal-Mart. But I decided I wanted a better product this time. I did my homework, read several reviews from different websites and almost all said this was the best Electric Smoker! I was Leary because of the electronic control module issues. So to address the temperature control issue. I set the smoker to 225 degrees and monitored it with a Thermopro TP20 with dual probs. I saw that the Smoker's internal temp was off by 10 degrees or more in the warm up phase. But when it reached approximate 215 to 220 it matched up with the Thermopro. FYI, I placed the prob as centrally located as possible to get accurate readings. Once the temp was reached it maintained between 220 and 230. The only bad thing I can say about this (and I knew going into this purchase) smoker is that you need to add chips every 45 to 60 minutes. I smoked a 5 lb Turkey Breast and 12 lb Pork Butt simultaneously (Of course the butt took much longer) and both came out perfect! The Bluetooth was flaky to sync with my phone. It would not sync even though I followed the directions perfectly. I work in advanced electronics, so dealing with this part should had been a no brainer to me. 1st of all you do not sync the bluetooth like you would anyother device, you actually have to use the app. I found if I kept going through the same process it would eventually link up. Turn off unit. Unplug unit. Count to 5 slowly. (helps with anger issues as well LOL) Plug in unit. Press the red CONNECT button on app. Press Power on unit. Press and hold connect button for a few seconds. Wait til it fails, repeat. Eventually it will link up. And I noticed the range isn't as good as my BT headset. I would say you only get about 40 ft Max. That is the max range I was getting before losing connection. When the app was connected, I found I couldn't change the temp or time. I would make the change via the app say from 225 bottom to 275 Top (This is a great feature to brown and make the turkey skin crispy!). I pressed the button to make the change but nothing would happen. However, when I make the change locally, it indicated the change immediately on the app.

The media could not be loaded. I have been wanting a smoker (never had one before) and I decided to go with an electric smoker as it is easier to keep the temperature. After a bit of research, the Masterbuilt electric smoker seemed to be the right one for me.It came very well packaged (see pictures). Setting it up took me about 15 minutes (it was so well packed, removing the packaging took the longest :=)Using it is very simple. I followed the instruction on first time use (very well explained in the manual). It took about 3 hours to prep for the first time. After that, I put the meat (turkey in my case) inside, inserted the probe in the meat, added wood chips and it worked like magic.Connecting my phone to the smoker was the biggest challenge, but so easy to overcome. The manual says to push the Bluetooth button and pair it with the phone. The reality is that you have to "press and hold" for a few seconds to be able to pair the smoker with the phone. After that, whenever you are out of range and you come back within range, you just click on the Bluetooth button (do not press and hold) and it reconnects immediately.Th display works great, but is not very bright if outside in the sun. However, I never have to use it as I do control the smoker from my phone at my convenience.The built in alarms in the app are also very helpful. I use them all the time.Finally, the most important thing is the quality of the food. The smoked turkey legs were simply fantastic. I've had a love hate relationship with this smoker. It was not hard but fairly tedious intense to put together.The Bluetooth application is odd and buggy. Anytime the smoker and phone disconnected it required deleting the smoker from the application and adding it again to regain control.I can honestly say that little to no food has been burned or wasted I've put in it. Everything comes out with excellent flavor.I was honestly really unhappy with it at first. But after several chats and calls customer service was helpful and kind. This smoker is still working very well. I've heard manually warming the temperature probe may be necessary for cold weather use.The screen is visible. But I'd definitely recommend installation in a non sunny area because the display is in blue and LED displays are easily sun blinded.Overall we love it. I can not wait to cook turkey and ham in it. It's nice smoking food until we are about ready to eat then finishing it on the top broiler when/as needed.

About 12 years ago a colleague told me about his Masterbuilt Electric Smoker (MES) so I bought one and used it through 2 moves over a period of 12 years. It finally wore out so I bought this new one to replace it - the new one has a top heating element (broiler) and a Bluetooth digital controller. Assembly was very easy - all I used was a Phillips head and an 11/16 socket and it took 30 minutes. Instructions were decent. I downloaded the Masterbuilt App and the pairing was seamless - the app guided me through it and it connected on the first try! I like the improvements over my last one - this smoker has a broiler element in the top - haven’t used it yet but it should help with certain dishes. It also has an improved digital control unit which looks like it is more resilient to the elements than the old one. I am very pleased with this purchase. MES’s are the best! Shipping, packing was great - Prime had it to my front door in 2 days! I have a cold smoker attachment that I need to attach to this new smoker (a recommended accessory) but even with the included chip loader it is ready to go right out of the box.
