Mackies of Scotland Haggis & Cracked Black Potato Chips, Pepper, 63.6 Oz, Pack Of 12

I tried these the first time during a trip to Edinburgh a few years ago. I thought I'd never get them here in the US. Don't be put off by "haggis". It doesn't taste like scrap meat, ground organs and spices that have been boiled for hours in a sheep's stomach. The flavor is indescribable, but has a peppery flavor. The chips are thicker than American chips, so there are less broken bits left behind. A great novelty snack to take to a party or share when guests come over. Most of my friends and family really like the flavor.

I bought these to share at Christmas time. They arrived quickly and well packaged. The flavor is rich and the black pepper adds a nice heat to the finish. Note that these gourmet crisps are a hearty, thick cut and not paper thin slivers that one mindlessly devours: you savor each one, preferably with a pint of ale. If you're not open minded enough to try 'haggis', consider that it is simply a sausage. I'm ordering another case in time for a St. Paddy's day celebration.

If you are looking for a chip with haggis flavoring your going to have to look for it, with that said I was happy to find these chips. So why only three stars then, well its because the spice flavoring is so faint that you barely notice it. These chips should have been label black pepper as it is almost all you taste on most chips. I still like the chips and I would put black pepper on my haggis, but I would have liked twice the haggis seasoning.

I found out about these on a recent trip to Scotland.. they were incredibly tasty.. just the right melding of salt and pepper and haggis tastes. I never thought I would find them in the States... but ordered on Amazon from Mackies of Scotland. They arrived promptly and in tact ( all 15 bags!) so now, my Scottish holiday can continue for weeks. Absolutely uniquely wonderful product. I am introducing them to friends who weren't fortunate enough to go to Scotland.

Oh I know that the thought of Haggis flavored crisps may not be on the top of flavors for some people but these are sure tasty! The chip itself has some substance and is cooked nice and crispy...not crumbly. And then of course the flavor hints of those mornings having some haggis and tats and with the added black pepper gives it a little kick. These are sure dang good!

I like Haggis, and I like crips (ok, potato chips ;) )!And this product does a great job of bringing them together.I'm highly confident that there is no real haggis in these chips, but they managed to bring the taste through very well.I don't get them often be occasionally, I just have to have them.If you have not tried them but like Haggis, give yourself a treat!

The taste is okay but I am very disappointed at the soggy chips. They are not expired so it may be a storage problem or may be simply too close to the expiration date. I won't buy again.

During the month of January, I like to order a case of these to help celebrate Robert Burns Day and all things Scottish! They taste amazing! Just a good hearty savory well balanced flavor. Can’t wait to order more!
