Basic thermostat

If you have an Empire gas wall heater, you really need this thermostat. A repairman serviced an older Empire wall heater in a large shed that I had with a recently purchased home. He put an off brand thermostat on it. I could not figure out why the heater would not completely shut off with the exception of the pilot light of course. The shed was not used often, but the heater was keeping the temp, at 70 degrees. I replaced the newly installed thermostat myself with this Empire thermostat. I can now safely turn the unit off , with the exception of the pilot light. Guess I need a new repair man.

If you have a millivolt style gas heater/fireplace this is the thermostat you need. Have used the honeywells like ace and lowes sell but they have open contacts that get contaminated (esp with smokers ) . This is the sealed mercury style bulb that cant get contaminated. If the contacts get dirty you lose enough millivolts from this resistance the gas valve wont open.

Does not work until you tap it. Do not purchase this item

Worked well. A little pricier than others, but it arrives quickly.
