Really enjoying this series...
Three volumes in, and I think I actually might enjoy this series more than Punpun going forward. Whereas Punpun lingered in its quieter moments, Dead Dead Demon seems to revel in its grounded absurdity and hinges more on the dialogue between its core characters. We still have a lot of those offbeat visuals, but this is a comparatively more vocal manga. Thematically similar, while setting a different tone; one that's more lighthearted, but with the capacity for some pretty weighty emotions.Volume 3 really starts to drive that home with a certain plot development dealing with loss, and it's handled really well considering the story maintains a relaxed pace. Here, we get a more detailed glimpse at the seemingly extraterrestrial "invaders", and it's honestly so abstractly handled, I still can't make heads or tails about any of it. At the forefront, you have this really fun, really relatable slice-of-life revolving around these young girls on the cusp of adulthood in a modern urban setting; with a sci-fi backdrop that is prevalent, but only really seems to breathe relevance in sporadic bursts. It works a lot better than you might think.

Explosively Intense, Alarmingly Calm, The Most Compelling Sci-fi Series in YEARS
Volume 3 marks a shift in intensity for this series, continuing to escalate the stakes for the overall setting and plot while maintaining a sufficient focus on our central cast to keep the low key and quiet tone of the series at the forefront. Inio Asano’s talent for blending such a high stakes scenario into such a mundane central storyline is nothing short of absolute genius and makes this a series you absolutely cannot miss. This series up to this point is a MUST BUY!!
