Couldn't put it down
This was a great book. Very insightful, humbling, and thought provoking. It claims to be transcribed via an after death communication. It was fabulously done. Even if it was a work of fiction, I would say of all of the NDE, aftermath communication books, this probably ranks at the top for me. It does a great job of describing the experiences of a soul on the other side, and the raw experiences faced by many (if not all of us). It also reinforces the idea that charity and self sacrifice for true, selfless motives are best, and describes the outcomes of true charity vs. selfishness, as well as a full range of other human motives. A great mix of new age spirituality, spiritualism and uncorrupted traditional beliefs of praying for the dead, purgatorial scenes, heavenly scenes, spiritual growth, romantic love, life lessons, and more. Worth re-read or two!

An Amazing and Enlightening Book!
"I have been a Wanderer through a far country, in those lands that have no name--no place--for you of earth, and I would set down as briefly as I can my wanderings, that those whose feet are pointed to that bourn may know what may in their turn await them."So reads the first sentence of chapter one, which sets forth the subject of the nonfiction, 194-page book, "A Wanderer in the Spirit Lands," by Franchezzo. Since reading this fascinating book, I keep going back and rereading parts of it. The book was written in 1896 by A. Farnese, apparently a medium, who says that the words were given to him by Franchezzo himself. Franchezzo was an Italian man who unexpectedly died after an illness, and the book is an account of his experiences after death. Anyone who doubts that there is life after death and that there are consequences for our good or evil deeds should read this book.Franchezzo had lived a selfish life, but sometime before his death he had fallen in love with a woman he called "The Good Angel of My Life." One day, after being very sick, he awoke to find himself in complete darkness. He had died. He learned after some time that there was still hope; by joining a brotherhood of penitents and helping other souls, he could improve his own condition. The way would be long and hard, but would lead to a brighter future. Franchezzo travels in the low realms of hell, has many strange experiences, learns much, overcomes temptations, and helps to rescue souls. His constant hope and goal is to eventually be reunited forever with the woman that he loves. It is not possible to adequately describe the book in a few paragraphs. I believe that anyone who reads this book will be benefited immensely.

The Afterlife: both awesome and awful
This book deserves more than 5 stars. It is so clear and fascinating, that I wonder why there aren't more books like it around. Maybe there are but I have not come across them. It seems so much more real than so many other versions of the afterlife which have not given us the whole story. I am so glad I read this, and plan to reread it at some time. It is both a message of hope and a warning of the real consequences of what we do. Beautiful, inspiring, fantastic and highly recommended if you feel drawn to it. Not everyone will be ready for this.

NOT THIS VERSION... but favorite book!
This version is missing sections from multiple chapters. For example when faithful friend talks about reincarnation, and others I didn't write down but noticed. Also the introductory poem "O star of hope..." Otherwise my favorite book I have read many many times.

Curiosity may demise a cat but in this read it awakens the man.

unique book on life beyond death
If you ever wanted to know what happens after you die, you will find this book very informative--definitely not the simple heaven and hell of most religious doctrine. It was written around 1896 by a medium, A. Farnese, who, received communications from a recently deceased Franchezzo--the "spirit author." Some readers may be put off by the flowery language and long sentences typical of the era in which it was written, but I find it refreshingly colorful and elegant. The "spirit author" describes his experiences from the moment of death (where he felt a "lifting up out of my body"), to witnessing his funeral, to seeing his already decaying body in his grave with his name inscribed on the headstone. He then goes on to tell his story of his experiences, teachings, and increasing knowledge in his new life in a very complex and multi-dimensional spirit world, or astral world. As one who has had numerous out-of-body travels in the astral world and who has studied states of consciousness for many years, I found these accounts of the astral quite credible. For example, he says, "...."in the spirit world our thoughts and wishes form our surroundings." Thus, there are as many ways of being on the astral as there are minds that can create them. The spirit author describes very aptly the various spheres, or levels, from "low" to "high" (vibrational levels) depending on how far one wants to advance in his or her spiritual knowledge. Chapters on "Formation of the Planets" and "Materialization of spirits" were especially interesting. He also has communications with his loved one on earth. While still in a body on earth, those of us reading this book will be reminded that we are so much more than our bodies and that death of the body is not an ending but only one phase, and there is so much more to come.

Absorbing classic but with too great an emphasis on spiritual rather than physical man.
Resonates with other books of its type including some more recent. However I can't help but feel sorry for the many wretches in hell because nowadays we appreciate the significance of inheritance and other genetic characteristics that predispose a person to behave in certain ways (psychopaths for example) and some scientists insist we truly have little free will of our own; therefore the problem is physical rather than spiritual. Author also tends to equate intellectual progress with spiritual progress whereas highly intelligent persons are not necessarily good, decent or spiritual.

remember when you recommended tjis book the other night
This book made me cry heavily for the first 30% or so. Can't believe how much it touched me. 3/4 through, and if not for life's disruptions, I would have never put it down and read it all the way through, non stop. Its a keeper and it's title came in a dream in conversation with whom may very well be my twin soul. It had to be a dream as when I asked him, remember when you recommended tjis book the other night, he had no recollection and said in on conversation I never referee to it. So weird, yet the love so parallel. Regardless, the perfect book at the perfect time of heart, mind n higher being awakening and unfolding. Highly recommend.

Fascinating
As someone who believes in life-after-death, this is an illuminating and fascinating book. It mainly explores the nether regions that the author wandered through after his death. They show what 'justice' truly looks like.I would recommend this book to anyone who is interested in spirituality and life-after-death.
