The pen writes well. I have only used the nib that was already on the pen. I don't do calligraphy, but just normal script and it is a great pen. Yes, It doesn't come with ink - so get some ink. I like using this pen with KWZ Sheen Machine Ink, or Diamine Ink. Also, it looks awesome on my desk.

I got this pen to write in my leather journal with handmade paper to write down runes, I LOVE IT!! The one thing I wished it came with was ink it cane with a bottle to put ink in but no ink to write with, when I looked up quill and ink sets I was expecting to get even just a little ink. But all in all I am extremely happy with my purchase

Despite the lack of ink, this product is stunning. The red and black feather compliments the silver tips. Because we already have ink, my son will be able to create a blend of ink that best suits his artwork.
