Drink now through to 2022. Serve well chilled. Representing the fifth generation of the Berthelot family to make Champagne, enologist Arnaud Berthelot and his wife Valerie lovingly craft their Cuvée Libertine from three Premier Cru vineyards in the villages of Dizy, Hautvillers and Avenay Val D'or. Unusually, this Blanc de Noirs is made with 100% Pinot Meunier and Arnaud insists on only using the highest-quality juice from the first pressing of the grapes which is known as the "coeur de cuvée". In accordance with the estate's high standards, the Cuvée Libertine is only produced during vintages that Arnaud considers to be worthy of this exquisite Champagne. Aromas of raspberries and red cherry cheesecake scent the glass along with rich spices typical of the Pinot Meunier grape. Arnaud insists on ageing this luxurious Blanc de Noirs in the family's cellar for at least four years, adding hints of sweet caramel and brioche to the strawberry and redcurrant flavours. Malolactic fermentation of the base wines to give a round, velvety texture and the bottles are finished with a low dosage which adds a vibrant freshness and emphasises the pure varietal character. Thanks to the mouthwatering acidity and robust body, the Libertine is a decadent accompaniment to foie gras served with grilled peaches or a showstopping Lobster Thermidor.
