The real Diana??
If you adored Diana (as I did and do) you will not want to read this book. This author had better things to say about the 'soft porn' lover of Prince Andrew than she did Diana. She makes Prince Charles look like a choir boy in the marriage. I have put this book down several times and am not even half way thru it. Since Diana is not here to defend herself now, it makes you wonder if this is just a book to make us look at Prince Charles differently. I don't. Am so sad to think someone could write this just to make money.

Very good read
Loved it. Campbell said Diana chose her to write her story first and they did interviews over the phone. Diana didn't like that Campbell was also interviewing other people for the book and wanted it written with only her own outtake on her life. Diana stopped giving interviews and then went to Andrew Morton, a tabloid writer to have him write the story.Diana sounds like she had rage in her. She had boyfriends before Charles that when one stood her up for a date, she went and poured an egg and flour mixture over his luxurious car. Another boyfriend she poured water in his gas tank.It was suspected that Diana may have been bipolar.Once she was married, she would have rages but the royal family would always keep it quiet or give in to her. She was the first to start having affairs. Her boys, she would use against Charles. Charles would be scheduled to have the boys but Diana would plan something for the boys and tell Charles the boys already had plans and were excited about them. She also had an abortion at one point when she was separated from Charles but not divorced. Read this book! I used to be pro-Diana 100% but there are 2 sides to every story and not everyone is 100% nice as I believed her to be. It is not a story of Charles but of Diana. You'll be amazed about some of the things you learn.

tedious and biased language
The language choice in this book with strong linguistic bias is anything but neural reporting that I hoped it would be. One example of 100's is the comment about the 19 year old Diana's flirtations with the prince. Lady Collins says Diana lead Prince Charles to "slaughter with her well laid trap"... Slaughter? Trap? The dripping faucet of those highly evocative word choices hinting at both evil and mental illness in Diana is relentless. None of those terms are used about Charles motivations, actions, and words. A clear bias permeates ever page of this gossip column bookAdditionally, Lady C, makes frequent reference to Basel Panzer (her own therapist in her other books) analysis of Diana, as quoted by his client Lady C. The reference is meant to give her gossip professional credibility instead it made me question the doctors ethics. The ethics of his psychoanalysis of someone he never met, and certainly not as a patient is then interpreted by his actual patient . It seems unethical and of course the analysis is negative as second guessing with a bias is.I wanted fair reporting of facts, the alleged comments and conversations with Princess Diana are interpreted with a clear slant that saw Diana as an opportunist plotting publicity whore that wanted power and fame. Perhaps a case of projection by the author, I wouldn't know, I speculate given the language choiceI viewed Princess Diana as a contemporary and found her to be the princess that brought a stuffy institution to life because she appeared to be an authentic human being in pain, As I lived through my own cheating marriage heartache about the same time Diana's was going public, I found her beautiful face of sorrow and dignity a beacon of comfort.. That is my bias, I was ready to be challenged with facts to see her differently but instead, what I observe d in this book was a society attitude of the stuffy dead aristocracy to which Diana was an outsider. The cruel, dismissive, judgment of the aristocrats that she never fit in with because, in a story that fit Prince Charles, Lady Di was a nut job. Hence his being forced to Camille's arms. She called herself the people's princess, I suspect the monarchy is alive and well because of her humanizing the cold and indifferent impression many had of the monarchy. If this author represents the aristocracy, the voice "let them eat cake" echos in her writing. In fact, reading this at the same time Lady C's unfortunately cutting remarks came out about Megan Markle being a "hustler" is revealing about why people want that British caste system abolished.I did not finish the book its fact-less gossip column style that manages to be pretentious at the same time it is uses cheap journalistic sensationalist language to slur someone that can't defend themselves is a waste of time. My opinion of Diana didn't change except to respect her more knowing how horrible it must have been to live in a rigged, arrogant society that produces mean girls in the likes of lady C. Lady Collins described herself as a hustler, this book is an example.

Trite, Petty and Stale
The author is so in love with herself, it felt indecent to read. The story bounced back and forth in time and was very disjointed. A complete waste of time and money.

Excellent unbiased book
This author gave such a fair account of the life of The princess. I've read a few books on Diana, that make her look like a saint, and makes Prince Charles look like a complete jerk. This book gives understanding to their relationship. This book was interesting and fair. This book sheds so much light on the real life of Diana, Charles, royal life and the car crash. Great read !!

" This account makes Diana sound like a nyphnphomaniac
I don't believe a word lady Colin says about her subject; nor do I believe she was Diana's "friend." This account makes Diana sound like a nyphnphomaniac, a psychotic (in fact, calls her one) and a media slut. Undoubtedly, there were faults on both sides causing the break up of the royal marriage, but no one can make me believe they were all Diana's, or that prince Charles is a saint and a martyr. Also, the prose is forced, and makes this a heavy and annoying read. Read this if you want to be both irritated and bored.

Great book!
Lady Colin always writes a good book, but this one is especially well-done. She has given information that I had not seen before and explains in such a logical fashion that I now understand, as never before, the realities that surround Diana’s death! Well done, Lady C!

Extremely informative
Well, I imagine I have read almost all of the 'Diana books' over the past 20 years or so, but this one had me gripped. Astonishing revelations, and amazing in depth information about the Paget Inquiry.I've followed Lady Colin Campbell's life over the years but only from newspaper articles, but she obviously came to a wider audience after her appearance on I'm a Celebrity ....: - but I have to admit I had no idea what a wonderful writer she is until I recently read her autobiography, hence then buying this book. From childhood she had a life of a family with position in life, and her life meant acquiring friends from all walks of life and celebrity, thereby enabling her to write about Diana with such authority, and because she is in this position I am of the opinion that she is a truthful author, not fanciful and posturing along the lines of Buffoon Burrel.I truly hope Diana did, in fact, find love and fulfilment with Dodi. She certainly deserved some loving happiness , didn't she. This book is the only one of all the many other Diana books which has persuaded me this is true. The fact that any happiness was so short lived is such a tragedy. I don't think we'll ever stop missing Diana. Knowing she should now be enjoying being with her wonderful sons and grandchildren must tear those two incredible young men's hearts open still is a very bitter pill.I wish we had known at the time just how much anguish Charles went through, having to virtually fight against his mother to get Diana the funeral she deserved as the mother of the heir apparent when the queen dug her heels in, saying Diana was no longer a member of the Royal family and as such she should have a quiet Spencer family funeral! Charles and Tony Blair had to join forces because none of the usual royal people behind the scenes were swung into action as for a Royal Funeral, she only relented and let Charles take a jet of the royal fleet when Charles sarcastically asked his mother if she'd rather Diana returned to England in the back of a Harrods van!!But receive a Royal Funeral she did, thank goodness. Lady C C is an author whom, once you start to read one of her books it's impossible to put it down. I' m now downloading Diana in Private and hope it,'s as good as this.If you haven't read this book, buy it, you won't be disappointed !!

Boring
I found this book quite boring. Most of the knowledge can be found in Documentaries on the late Princess. I have previously read The Chronicles of Princess Diana, and found this book to be unbiased and interesting. I am presently half way through this book, and I'm struggling to finish it. It's becoming one paragraph at a time. Lady C has a very obvious dislike for our late Princess. One topic which I found particularly unsavoury was the naming of Lady Diana's previous lovers? Princess D's Uncle Lord Fermoy, said there were none, Lady Cgoes on to discredit this despite there being no evidence. Did we really need to read this? Especially now that P D is deceased!!! Have some respect. If you want a truly awful book, most of it I would say fabrication, then this book is for you.

Too
As a fan of Diana I found this book an insult to her memory! The book is based on comments by the authors friends who many don’t even give their names with their quotes made against Diana . The author’s writing is boring and too long and she repeats herself several times , rambling on. I will not bother reading any of her books in future .

Brilliant !!!
This has to be the most in-depth book about Diana I have ever read. The author tells it as it is & doesn’t leave any stone unturned, she has clearly done her homework ! I’m fairly picky with what I read & im glad I read this book. Don’t like to talk Ill of the dead, but blimey, she really had another side to her that I found quite eye opening. If you want to read a book that you can’t put down, read this .......

Honest
This book by Lady Colin Campbell was so detailed and written in such a way that had me gripped and unable to put it down. A very matter of fact, honest account on who princess Diana was and the story of her short tragic life. The facts were well researched and had evidence to back them.
