A Good Little Boombox well worth the money
I had an old one that lasted 20 years and finally lost one channel. Looking for a replacement, this caught my eye. The size is great for the shelf and it slipped right in where the old one had sat. 1/8 in jacks meant I didn't even need to use the new speakers (keeping them in a closet for the future if necessary), just plugged in the old ones. I'm not a remote using kind of guy, but it looks like it has everything you'd need if you do. Don't expect it to crank out the sound, but it's certainly loud enough to hear in the next room or out on the porch. The sound quality is what you'd expect in a box for less than fifty bucks, but again, it's certainly good enough for me. Just hoping it lasts at least half as long as the old durabrand....sigh....

great sound
I have only one problem with the unit. I called to get answer on why FM has to be reprogramed after turning unit off. I think it should stay set at what it was doing when shut down. If you want to do something else it does, then program it. Great unit and great price. Other problem is attaching speakers to unit, no instructions on how to attach to the main unit so you can pick it up and travel with it as one piece.

Perfect for my needs...
This is a long review because there's so little information about this model online. What I was looking for was a portable stereo with decent sound, a CD player and the ability to play music from a USB stick, without spending a ridiculous amount of money. A few of the "name brands" made some a few years ago, but apparently not anymore. The only ones I could find are in India, and no one seems to have the old models for sale in the States. I searched for weeks. Now all the bigger names are concentrating on docking for Apple products, which I couldn't care less about. Many have aux inputs, which is nice but since I want portability I don't want to deal with multiple electronic pieces and extra cables. So USB was a requirement. And that left about 4 brands I'd never heard of to choose from.I went with the Naxa NPB-428 because frankly it looked bigger than the others. I'm not expecting home stereo quality but I was hoping for something with some volume that sounded better than an old transistor radio. My experience with smaller off-name boomboxes is that they sound tiny and tinny (bass-boost is usually a joke), so I wanted to avoid as much disappointment up front as possible.Having only just received it, I can't vouch for its durability. Here are my first impressions:It's smaller than I expected. Which isn't to say it's tiny - it just somehow looked bigger in the only picture of it that seems to exist anywhere online. I've posted my own pictures here to help anyone else who's curious. It's also very light. This is certainly the golden age of plastic.Despite its size, it's reasonably well laid out. Space is tight but the controls aren't all crammed together in an irritating way. A standard size USB stick gets a little in the way but not too badly. The CD player works fine. I've only tried it with commercial discs. No idea how it'll perform with homemade mp3 discs, as I'll be using USB for mp3s. The USB input works great. It's exactly what I needed. The display doesn't give any info other than track number though, so don't expect fancy scrolling text. I have no intention of putting a cassette into this thing, so I have no info for that. I assume the aux in is fine. It's just an aux in, which is pretty much the same on anything that has one. The radio is nice in that it's digital. Why any modern boombox would use the old-fashioned dial-type radio is beyond me, but a lot still do. Reception for me is better than expected. The sound is not as good as I'd want, but better than I expected. It has a fairly big sound (glad I avoided the smaller boomboxes) and detaching the speakers will only spread the sound more and make it seem bigger. If you want portable, it's fine with the speakers attached. It definitely sounds like mediocre speakers in plastic boxes, but the size helps with the fullness. The main thing is it's not tinny and small sounding. It's not extremely loud but it'll definitely fill up the immediate area. It didn't distort at all at full volume. The bass boost is ok for lower volume but at higher volume it really highlights the plastic box sound, so turn it off when you crank it. There are no EQ or tone settings at all - all you get is volume and bass boost, so don't expect to tailor the sound to your personal liking.Unlike some other stereos I looked at, the remote will control the USB input, which is nice. Not mentioned in any information I could find is what batteries it takes. The stereo takes 8 D batteries, and the remote takes 2 AAA batteries. No idea how long they tend to last yet.Overall, I'm pleased. It suits my needs perfectly, for working out in the yard or in the basement or wherever I have projects going on. Easy enough to pick up and bring with me, or I could leave it in one part of the yard and still hear it well enough in another. With the detachable speakers it's meant to double as a bookshelf system, but I think for most people it'd be disappointing in that role. As a boombox, it's more than adequate.

DON'T BUY THIS PRODUCT!
This is absolutely not worth the money. Buy one of the little ones for $20 that plays radio and cds instead of this. I bought it to go in our nursery to play soothing music for my son or white noise on the radio overnight. The radio doesn't work right. Most of the time when you turn it on to fm it only goes from 8-13.. so it obviously doesn't register any real stations. After an indeterminate number of times switching between fm, fm2, and am and Turing the system on and off it will read right. But then it won't pick up a station correctly. For example, 106.2 is picked up on 103.8 but you can also hear 101.2 if the song being played on 106.2 has a soft part. And both stations come through clearly, just depending on the volume will tell you which one you get. Then you have the cd player. It functions fine but no matter what disc you put in there is a popping sound behind the music almost like a fire crackling along with a soft static. Adjusting the volume doesn't help.Had I realized it had so many issues when I first got it I would've returned it but since I was still pregnant, working full time, and my husband is not home all the time due to being in the military, I didn't do more than turn it on and make sure it worked once and it just so happened to be a lucky time where the radio functioned for more than 2 minutes.I consider this product to be unusable and will be getting rid of it. Too bad I spent $60 on a piece of junk and can't afford another one, probably for another 2 months. So much for a radio in the nursery.

Great Little Unit
I got this boom box for a book shelf unit to listen to sports radio when I am on my computer. The radio plays much better than the one I paid three times as much for a few years ago. I sat down to watch a basketball game on TV the other night and just after they sang the Star Spangled Banner the electricity went out. I grabbed a couple oil lamps and my boom box which has batteries and was able to get the game on the radio. The CD player works good too and has a remote that lets you change tracks without getting out of your chair. It will also play mp3s from a thumb drive and you don't have to take a bunch of cds with you if you are working in the yard or your shop or going camping. I would recommend this player as it is a good value for the price.

Deplorable experience.

clarity of sound
THIS IS A VERY NEAT AND COMPACT STEREO SYSTEM WITH A BEAUTIFUL CLEAR SOUND. I LISTEN TO CLASSICAL MUSIC WHERE YOU WANT TO HEAR ALL PARTS OF THE ORCHESTRA AND THE SUBTLE UNDERTONES . THE BASS OPTION ALSO ALLOWS THE ORGAN SECTIONS OF A PIECE TO REALLY STAND OUT AS WELL. HAVING THE STEREO SPEAKERS DETACHABLE ALLOWS ONE TO POSITION THEM JUST SO TO MAXIMIZE THE SOUND. LOVELY PRODUCT !

Buyer Beware, broke after 6 weeks - terrible quality!
I bought this stereo because it had some good reviews. I should have listened to the bad ones - this unit is garbage. I had it for 6 weeks and just like others said the cassette door jammed and broke. It was for my dad who still listens to tapes but even the doors and buttons on the rest of the player are flimsy and poor quality & sound is awful. I don't have the time or patience to return it and now I'm out $100. I learned my lesson next time its quality not cheap crap.
