Very confusing product.
I bought 4 packages of cinnamon Plagels from the company directly...they arrived well packaged but totally thawed...Put all 4 packages in the freezer...next day, had to figure out "do I defrost to toast this or do I just toast it frozen?" I decided to toast it frozen, on each side on a tray in my toaster oven...First side I set forDARK toast.....second side, I removed the Plagel halfway so it was defrosted but not over toasted...It smelledgood.......I couldn't cut it with a knife. I don't know how I was supposed to cut this Pagel in half so it could butter it or make a sandwich out of it........Can't cut it frozen...didn't seem soft enough to cut it properly if had defrosted....And it's pathetically small...I just put butter on the top of the whole thing...ate it with two eggs...The overall flavor is very good...which would add stars to my review...the texture, however is about the lowest I could give it...less than onestar...It was grainy...and had a weird mouth feel....as if when my saliva mixed with the Pagel, therewas an element of something that felt gummy in my mouth...I have eaten many gluten free breads with better texture than this product....I don't feel the developers of this product perfected their recipe priorto putting a product on the market... I also didn't like the fairly high content of sodium...Trying to fool yourself that you're eating a great tasting bagel (even a fake one) would be difficult formost people......And I chose the raisin cinnamon because I felt it would probably be a better option than any of the others for flavor...Who could mess up raisins and cinnamon? So the taste of this bagel was verygood...I have an intolerance of gluten grains.....Not full blown celiac...but I'm positive this Pagel gave me a horribly bloated stomach...I could see my stomach sticking out and all day long I had a lot of gas...and it was followed by diarrhea....So something about this product is not gluten 100% free...and nowhere did I see that the ingredients were non GMO...nor are they all organic...No way to know if cassava had been exposed to gluten prior to it becoming an ingredient in Pagels. So two days in a row I after I ate a Plagel...I felt literally sick afterwards...I didn't see anyone state that in their comments....but today I ate my organic gluten free oatmeal. left my Plagels in the freezer... and my stomach feels calm and settled once again. I gave it two tries and both times my stomach was a mess.Reading about this product made me curious...and it was expensive to order 4 packages...I would like tosay I'm disappointed but honestly, there are a lot of companies that make good gluten free bagels...And for the most part, people who have dietary sensitivities don't also have to be on a totally grain free diet.Maybe to lower the carbs but this product just didn't digest properly in my systemI have no clue why I don't tolerate Plagels...I just don't...I KNOW they're not called bagels so I probablyshouldn't even make that reference but I feel most people would expect them to be a good bagel substitute and they aren't....They probably should be called hockey pucks. after you toast them..Really I hate giving negative reviews but I'm being 100% honest about how sick I felt after eating themtwo days in a row...If you have a sensitive digestive system, I suggest you don't eat these.
