Q: What is the distance from the front rod to the back rod to hold the shoes?

Inside space is 4 3/4 inches. Outside of front to outside of back shoe rail is 5 3/4 inches

Q: Can it be taken apart once assembled?

yes it could be disassembled. remember, this does not hold a pair of booties. it will only hold flat shoes, tennis shoes and some heels. it the heels are really high they will interfere will the row below it when trying to get shoes on and off the racks. they don't hve enough space between the rows to handle 3in booties.

Q: When assembled, how far apart are the rods that hold the shoes?

the brackets/rods are 6" apart, but the distance of available space to rest the show on is 5.5". A typical ankle bootie with a 2" heel will hit the pair of shoes above it and knock it off the rack. for instance, the rack above has a pair of high heels on it. The heels hang of the back rod and drop 2" down into the next section. Making it impossible to fit the ankle bootie under it without knocking off the pair of high heels. My husband had to cut every other row off making the whole rack wobbly and they had to add a support system so the whole thing wouldn't tip sideways. Also, the wheels they give you don't roll very well. had to replace them with something. a total waste of money.
