You won't find an independently tested floating floor underlayment with more sound or moisture control. 7 out of 10 new floating floor buyers complain about the hollow sound associated with their floor. Do not forget to make your new floating floor easy on the ears. Silent Blue is the only product that uses an independent testing laboratory. The sound rating tests are too expensive for just anyone to pay for, but this ensures that you are getting a pad with real sound deadening qualities. Visit the Silent Blue website, and look for the Test Laboratory link, you will see the original test results. THE HIGHEST SOUND RATINGS AVAILABLE IN THE U.S. We’ve added Mylar to one side of this pad, while Silent Blue™ needs no added moisture protection since it is composed of closed cell membranes that can not be penetrated by moisture. Sometimes it tears while being walked on during installations. The rips need to be mended with a polyethylene tape or Silent Blue™ Tape. When this new product is installed with the metallic side down, it becomes very difficult to rip or tear during installation; saving a little time. Consistent Low Moisture Transfer Ratio - prevents Mold & Mildew. Flexible enough to overcome small subfloor imperfections. Will not produce hollow sound pockets over most debris. 3 mm Thick / Easy to Handle Sound Transmission Class (STC)- Measure of resistance of a building element such as a floor or wall to the passage of audible sounds. The higher the STC number the better the sound barrier. IIC Rating: 72 STC Rating: 73 Percentage of Sound Insulation: 65% Water Resistance: Waterproof; water can not penetrate closed cell membranes. This makes all the difference in the world.
My in-laws put in some laminate flooring and it sounded terrible and loud when you walked on it and you could tell it was a fake floor. I used this after a demonstration of its sound deadening qualities and was pleased with the results. It not only looks like a real wood floor but it sounds like one too without being loud.

Very shiny blue underlayment, wish it could be the flooring because it's so shiny and pretty. This was a requirement by our HOA and never would have found it otherwise.

FANTASTIC
Great underlayment for Laminate and Engineered Hardwoods! Great Price!!!Exceeds most Home Owner Association sound abatement requirements in California. So far no complaints from our down-stair neighbor

Good product
Easy to use, seems to be doing its job. While I don't have experience with other products to compare it to, it is not as quiet as I had hoped.

Almost great underlayment
Worked great and provides good noise control. Good delivery, etc. Only problem is the product has some smaller flaws that need to be cut out and new material taped into the flaw.

It works, kind of
I have been using this for a whole house underlayment on new laminate floors. I have used Quiet Walk in the past and will stick to this in the future. The Silent Blue is nice, but it tears really easy when hit with a sharp object or a pivoting step. It is easy to cut and provides an adequate vapor barrier. However, for a few dollars more, I prefer the more resilient Quiet Walk Laminate underlayment.

Good product, Good price
Easy to put down. Very good quality product compared to what's offered at the big box stores. I am buying more to use in one more room. Did not tear despite the crawling around on it to put the floor in.

Poor quality control, hope it works well in the long term.
Of the three rolls that I bought, one had a lot of spots where foam had not been poured well over the mylar layer leaving large gaps. I had no time to return it, so I had to cut those areas out and place and seal patches. Another roll had a very uneven edge, making it very inconvenient to join runs edge to edge. One roll was fine, though foam thickness and color seemed not uniform: probably no loss of function. It seems to work fine, as much as you can tell with an installed and hidden from view product. I hope the mylar holds up well - it is not as thick as typical plastic film barrier. Yes, it is sound absorbing. No, not drastically better then other good underlayment I have used.I have installed it fine in the end, with some cursing and a bit of time wasted, and the overall design seems perfectly functional. I do prefer it to felt or those styrofoam balls underlayment.
