This is an invaluable resource, in fact one of the best jewelry reference books overall, which includes many useful charts and information. The title page states: "A Reference of Gems, Metals, Formulas, and Terminology for Jewelers" and that is exactly what this book delivers from beginning to end. The author has shared his knowledge freely as many other authors don't, including those who only give limited amounts necessary to sell a book. I wish I had found it sooner, it would have saved me from buying many of the useless books I purchased in the past with inadequate information. This is not really a "how to" book, about the process, but what you need to know to do the process, the measurements and charts that help with the success of a project.

this book is just what its title says:a comprehensive reference to necessary bits a person will need when involved with jewelry craft.as a craftsman i reviewed it and found information laid out in a well organized manner and thoughbrief it would save a person from many hours of scouring other books or the internet for information,and it really helps when you search for the right words...and at least it can get you primed in a area that will set you up with the right key words so you can communicateto others with correct terminology to ask appropriate questions.i like it, though i wont read it daily, it is like a dictionary, when you need it there is no other that will do...good luck

This is technical, can I say TECHNICAL! Lots of charts and figures on many things. Not what I expected, because I was under the impression there was lots of written text. Anyway, its on my studio shelf and I'm sure it will be incredibly handy someday.

If you are in Gemology school or even if you are an old hat, this reference book is a must. It contains all the charts and formulas you will ever need. This is NOT a text book, this is a book for the gemology student with a teacher or a gemologist. I would compare it to having a chart of the multiplication tables with your 3rd grade math book, though of course this is much more complex and has about everythiing you would need to reference.

this book should be on the shelf of every level of jewel smith, from beginner to experienced...there is so much information contained in it on more topics than you could even begin to imagine, and it is definitely a go-to resource for almost every project...I highly recommend this book, it is definitely worth the money!!

This is a MUST have for metal smiths. No matter what your level of experience this book will be very useful. I have several fellow jewelry makers who keep it within arm's length. It's worth every penny !

This is a great book for all Jeweler's. It breaks down how to mix all types of metals, chemicals,etc. in the use of jewelry making in simple plain English. Even a person with no knowledge in metal mixing would understand this book.
