A most important & Excellent Read
“A Matter of Souls“ is an excellent read and a most fitting title.Author Denise Lewis Patrick tells so much about life thru her short stories that are are from 1960’s and still so very relevant in today’s society. It is coming from a black perspective of how things were and ironically how things still are today. You will read about love, Pride, Shame, Anger, Joy, disbelief, RACISM and mostly Courage. The book took me thru so many emotions, I cried thru most of my read, but was so grateful for the Dignity that The Author showed of the African American characters As they suffered and lost so much.I laughed thru some of the book and smiled, because it reminded me of stories my mom told me growing up in Alabama in the 30’s.It shows how we are all intwined in this world. The book will hopefully enlighten some, that can’t comprehend what it is or how it’s been for African Americans and I’m sure other people of color right here in these United States.Let the book take you on a journey and keep your heads up.

eye opening insights
An absolutism was brought to me from this book. I felt and experienced these men, these women, and their struggles. I knew of the horrors they suffered. But to read in detail what would have otherwise been left in my mind as a looked over fact only pushes me further into pursuing my own career to help better our world. This would come as an easy recommendation for anyone, but more so for those who deal with all different types of races. Yes this is mainly covering an oppression of one race, but it can just as easily be any other race. That is why I gave it a 5/5

Good Qualilty
The book came in near perfect condition. It seems to be a previous library book, but the pages have no tears and the cover is still intact.

Many shades of hatred and heroism.
Excellent view through short descriptive stories of the real horrors endured by African Americans no longer legally enslaved but victimized by hatred and ignorance.

Interesting
A series of short stories of African Americans in America in different times in history. I thought they were moving but were disjointed in a way that confused me.

Richly told tales that tell us so much about ourselves
These extraordinary short stories dynamically illustrate different aspects of the African American experience, from slave ship, to voting, to being in today’s White society. Here is a book that we will used in our classrooms – it is that good – but it is also a book that all Americans should read; the stories are richly told and tell us something of ourselves, no matter the color of our skin, our ancestry, or our beliefs.
