Tree Girl
I really enjoyed this book. This book deals with the killings of the Indians in Guatamala in the 1980's. The Civil War taking place there is killing the Indians there, men, women, children- innocent people that have done nothing to be treated as such. The army trained by the USA is committing these atrocities and blame the rebels of doing this. This is a very enlightening book, I don't know where I was at this time because I was not aware of this going on. I recommend this book.

Powerful
This book is as much or more for adults than it is for adolescents. Tree Girl is a powerful story of the resilience and courage. Gabriela is a role model of strength. What more can Gabi endure. What she must witness is beyond words. It is a graphic realistic retelling of a true story. Honor Gabi, read and remember. Make a difference. Learn to play, have fun and enjoy life. Life is fragile and short. Learn, teach, listen.

BEST BOOK I'VE EVER READ
So, I was reading all of these reviews saying that this book was boring. This was the best book I've ever read with parts that I cried during. It was the most meaningful book I've read in my entire life. GREAT JOB BEN MIKAELSON!

A must read for teens and adults! Wow! As great as The Rent Collector or Lopez Lomong's!
Extraordinary book from a young woman's point of view of war impacting innocent people! Not for grade school. More for teenage and adults. A must read for compassion and realism.

Read it!
This is a terrible book that everyone should read! It is very well written and covers topics that are not easy to read about. Ben Mikaelsen is a top notch author. Read all of his books!

An excellent insight into Guatemala's past
I would highly recommend this book to anyone travelling through Central America, wanting to read a more personal account of Guatemala's history. I found this to be a very gripping read which left my eyes watering on many occasions, but as mentioned in previous reviews, I would say that some parts are far too graphic for it to be classed as a teen novel.
