is pretty good in the scheme of things
You have to know what your buying. when it comes to antennas size really does matter. if you're buying this thinking your radio is going to suddenly be more powerful you're wasting your time and you're hard earned money. but what you want do Is to make your HT easier to carry Easier to drop in a pocket or purse. and you're doing reasonable range repeater work or reasonably close simplex. then this is definitely a antenna you want to consider. I have the rubber duck that came with my Yaesu vx -6r. in my backpack or briefcase or console.because this little stubby just doesn't reach as far has an 8 inch rubber duck. as I drove home tonight after my shift. I had a QSO with a buddy of mine, the entire 14 mile drive. now almost half of that was driving towards the repeater just a little over half was driving away from the repeater. but hitting a repeater 7 miles out from inside a car with a rubber duck especially little 3 inch stubby duck.is pretty good in the scheme of things. so if you know what you're buying and why you're buying it. This is a solid little Antenna. you're definitely going to want a little bigger antenna for work further out. but as long as you don't fool yourself into thinking It's something it's not you will be very pleased with this antenna. it's never going to be more than a three inch but as 3-inch antennas go It is top notch.KG5EJG 73 Mike

It is what it is.
I can reach a repeater on 2m that is over 36 miles away with my IC-92A.. which means that this little rubber resistor works at least as well as a wet noodle dipole. (The repeater is at 4000' and I'm line-of-sight.) Let me check here: nope, I can't bring it up without the antenna. So I'll say that this antenna works. It's just a coil in a condom. It is not going to get you any DX awards. But it will present an acceptable load to your ham-shack-on-a-belt and not poke any eyes out. It's not going to defy the laws of physics. It's not that bad on UHF. In fact, think of it as an okay UHF antenna that won't burn your finals if you happen to xmit on VHF.The build is good and the rubber is soft and pliable. I've owned several of these over the years. They are handy in the right situations. Mostly when you want to carry a radio but don't want to look like a total dork. If you only operate your HT while wearing a safety vest then this isn't the antenna for you. It's not the antenna you want to take camping or for SAR work, but it is the one you might choose for walking the dog around the neighborhood to enjoy a quick QSO while the dog lifts a leg.

Convient But Don't Expect Miracles
Not all that impressed. Probably about double of what the price should be.The SMA connector is slightly recessed. When I tried to connect it to my HT (Icom 51-A 50th Anniv.), there was about a 2 mm gap between the base of the antenna and the top of the transceiver. Unfortunately it's not acceptable there. It does fit nicely on my Uniden BCD436HP scanner and, so long as I'm in close proximity to what I want to listen to (mostly law), it works great and is completely unobtrusive.

Very soft and very flexible, works great for short range.
I am very happy I purchased this antenne. It fits just fine on my Yaesu FT-60R radio and works great for short range work. If you use the factory antenna on low to reach a repeater you will probably need to use medium power to reach it with this antenna. I turned it to high power and still was able to reach the repeater over 20+ miles away maybe even 25+ miles and that's from inside my house on the couch. The medium just wasn't enough throw. For close work throw it on and put it in a belt pouch and you won't even know the radio is there, you never feel the antenna poking you in the side again. When I get a new radio I will buy one for it also.

Very flexible sort antenna. It's pretty much as others have said a "spring in a condom" with the amount of flex aiding in it's durability allowing the radio to take some falls with this antenna on and the antenna showing no damage.

Works Great
I got this for the FT-270R, I can not tell much difference then the duck that came with the radio. I am sure it wont perform as well as a much longer duck but this is so flexible you can barely tell there is a wire coil inside it, just feels like very flexible rubber tube. If you are working repeaters at a close range then this is the cats meow!Shipped fast and price was good, Amazon makes life a little easier, beats the tar out of driving around shopping or checking multiple web sites trying to find what you need. One stop shopping and most likely find them with the better price, not always, but most of the time.

Not the best for receiving transmission's
I brought this for my Yaesu vx-6r for reciving public safety in brooklyn ny but the signal is not so good like the antenna the radio came with But as far as the size & flexibility great & cute easy to carry in pocket for the go as a spare antenna

Poor signal once installed. Not close to the OEM antenna.
Reception on my BCD396 was not even close to as good a factory antenna. I wanted the smaller antenna and I like the looks. With a scanner itโs not about the looks, I need reception
