Yet, another nail biter!
Again, with my nails gripping the edge of my seat, I was gripped with suspense and finding myself living the story line right along with the main characters. Very good read! Looking forward to the 3rd book of the "Women's Murder Club!"

James Patterson with Andrew Gross
2nd Chance is an exciting read. Any one who is familiar with the San Francisco/Oakland bay area will see the places in 2nd Chance. The reader may have some idea as to who the killer is and maybe not. I know I had a couple of characters in mind and I was wrong. That is good writing. After the death of Lindsay Boxer's boy friend and lover in 1st to Die, Lindsay has gone over and beyond in her desire to solve any homicide that is committed in San Francisco. In 2nd Chance, Lindsay travels to Napa wine country and then on to Cleveland, Ohio where similar murders have been committed. Lindsay believes these are the same killer. She gets together with her friends, Jill, the deputy DA of San Francisco County, Claire, San Francisco ME, and her good friend from the San Francisco Chronicle, Cindy. Cindy does some research in the Chronicle's files to find some clues as to whom maybe the "Chimera." Lindsay father left when Lindsay was very young and he too was a SFPD officer, when he suddenly reappears into her life. But why now? Why would her father show up now? Does he have some connection with the killer? Why was a child murdered leaving church choir practice? There are many questions to be answered. You can find the answers byreading this fine novel. Recommended for the mature reader. Language and sexual content. DP, Castro Valley, CA

Twists and turns
A real page turner. Another win for Boxer. There is excitement and tragedy that leave you on the edge of your seat as you turn each page.

Full of surprises!
Loved the suspense. Similar to other writings in that they solve the murder and then add a new twist. Great read.

frustrated
Having read and really enjoyed the first in this series, I was looking forward to this. Admittedly the excitement, the twists and turns were good. But, the really stupid bravado of Lindsey and her noncredible escapes really detracted for me. I was really looking forward to this long series, but just now, I don't think I'm willing to spend the money for #3.

Typical Excellent Patterson
There was a lot of suspense, and there were some great twists that I did not see coming! What more can you ask for? Oh, yeah! I almost forgot! I got to know a little more about the main characters in the series, too! So, on to #3. I highly recommend.

Disappointing after the first book
I enjoyed the debut novel in this series very much and looked forward to continuing it. This outing was enjoyable enough, but didn't match the caliber of the first book, mostly because of a series of small blunders and one major moment that completely blew my ability to suspend my disbelief. Some examples of the little stuff - accurately naming several novelists and their works, then referring to "Zena, Warrior Woman" instead of "Xena, Warrior Princess." (And no, as a cursory Google search would have revealed, Lucy Lawless had a very capable stunt woman in Zoe Bell...); having Lindsay lift evidence boxes down from a shelf a day after getting grazed in the abdomen by a bullet (so not gonna happen, at least not painlessly); having her be able to draw a gun from an ankle holster and shoot it after having her Glock shot out of her hand (and said hand requiring healing, as we later learn). Of course, as other reviewers have mentioned, the big blooper was having Lindsay chase down a suspect with a dead cell phone and no backup. Stupid much? Finally, I couldn't help but notice that two out of the three times Lindsay's life was in danger, she had to be saved by men. I'm not suggesting that she never get help, but a majority of the time? One final note - what kind of person chooses to drive a tank like a Ford Explorer in San Francisco, where streets are narrow, gas prices high, and curbside parking nearly nonexistent? Put the woman in a sensible vehicle, please!!!All that said, it was a quick, mostly enjoyable read and I will give the series at least one more book to find its legs. Fingers crossed.....

Amazing series a page turner couldn’t put the book down until it was finished! The author keeps you guessing on who the killer really is! Definitely recommend for anyone who loves a good murder mystery!
