Good guideline
For those of us who know nothing about weddings this is something great to have. It is very basic and keeps it simple. So if you are already feeling overwhelmed this book helps you keep on track. I wish it had a checklist for the actual wedding. I found that other wedding planning books offered more information. It is great to help you up until the wedding. But what about a time-line for the day of? Honestly if you don't have a wedding planner making sure all is going well you might miss your first dance or cutting the cake? For me I need to be told about these important details because not knowing anything about weddings you forget about these things. I would not consider this book offbeat. It offers some "offbeat" suggestions. But if you are a unique bride this will not help you.

Nothing out of the ordinary here
This is an incredibly booooring wedding planning book, sprinkled throughout with some odd advice. Ex: "If you're honeymooning someplace tropical, buy lots of full-length slips and cut them off at the knees." Are you kidding me?? You're really encouraging me to wear cut-up slips? What is this, 1998?This book would be pretty revolutionary if it came out in the 1980's or early 1990s, when every wedding was huge, poofy, and the same, but today, there are slightly quirky wedding items and advice everywhere you look. The quizzes don't actually offer advice or direction, just a lot of questions. The last thing I need are more questions. In all, I'm thinking about passing this along to another friend getting married, but I think she has nice enough taste that none of this advice would be helpful for her either. I'll probably return it, honestly.Another note: all of the examples of weddings seem to be about couples who have multiple receptions, all over the world ("they had a San Francisco reception, then a NY reception, then one in Paris!"). This is the very opposite of anti-bride - more like, notice-me-I'm-going-to-have-as-many-receptions-as-possible-and-spend-$50k! kind of bride. Blech. Don't pick this up unless you really need cookie cutter advice. The other books I picked up in the same order were suggested books ( Offbeat Bride: Creative Alternatives for Independent Brides - think Burning Man types, and The DIY Wedding: Celebrate Your Day Your Way - super awesome advice), and offered much better info. I'd recommend you get The DIY Wedding: Celebrate Your Day Your Way instead.

Buy one everytime a friend gets married
I used this when planning my own wedding and I've purchased two more since then for girlfriends getting married. This should be used in combination with a larger planner if you are planning a HUGE blowout circus wedding but it can be used alone if you are having a smaller more intimate gathering. I love this book and still have the one i used for my wedding. It's cute, fun, and truly for the bride who doesn't want or need a giant bible of wedding junk to sort through in preparation for her big day.

WOW - I forgot about this amazing wedding planning book
WOW - I forgot about this amazing wedding planning book. 6yrs later, it is one of thing I remember the most that helped pull off a very aspirational wedding abroad. Concentrating on the most important choices for my guests' enjoyment, 80 of our closest friends and family came and had the best time ever. The wedding turned out perfect. It's all about the focus & "KISS" principle ("keep-it-simple/stupid") haha. Well... it worked!

good for not-so-traditional brides
I bought this and haven't used it much, since I've been putting off planning, but it does have a lot of helpful tips. Unlike a lot of other planners it helps you to figure out what is really required and what is optional (favors, who pays for bridesmaids' dresses, etc).

It would have possibly worked better had I gotten it before I had done more ...
It just wasn't for me. I didn't use it at all as it didn't really have anything I really needed. It would have possibly worked better had I gotten it before I had done more of the plans for my wedding.

Good thoughts
This book does have all the checklists. This is good for the blow out wedding. A little more focused on the oddball wedding, but some very good tips for getting you thinking outside the box - if that's where you want to go.
