Swinging a Golf Club Made Simple
This book may be all you need to help you learn to swing a club...because it's simple. As a beginning golf instructor I discovered Ernest Jones and his philosophy back in 1978, put it away to study Hogan, Leadbetter, Ballard and many others, and, fortunately, re-discovered him 12 years ago. The big distinction between his teaching (and Manuel de la Torre's, one of his acolytes still alive) and other instructors is that it's very natural...it focuses on "feeling" the swinging motion instead of "thinking" or "understanding" the swing. Confidence only comes when the student can really "feel" the differences between a swinging motion that works and one that doesn't...and the student doesn't have to rely on an instructor, the Golf Channel, golf magazines or their buddies or spouses...they can feel the differences themselves. Jones's philosophy has an "easy to feel" scientific basis...the pendulum.Jones focuses on the swinging motion and not parts of the swing--he draws a circle with one motion instead of trying to connect a bunch of arcs like almost every other golf instructor. Focusing on the mechanics of the body and making the body do things is like trying to open a door by moving the hinge...it's easier and it works better if you move the edge of the door (the clubhead) and feel what that is doing. There's never been anyone like Jones and this is his magnum opus.Best of all, Jones's philosophy encourages students to trust themselves and not try so hard. That is, after all, the essence of effortlessness and naturalness in any motion.

Swing away Merrill. Merrill...swing away. Felt wrong not to swing.
This book changed the way I play. My game is better...by far. I've saved at least 5 strokes per round on average, but more importantly, I enjoy playing lots more. I have far greater confidence in my ability to swing, and that's priceless return for a modest sum. I recommend this book to all golfers, but especially to newbies. If you can learn from Jones before becoming frustrated by an inconsistent mental state, you will likely become hooked and wonder why most struggle so much at the game. As a bonus, it's fun to read: I can't help think that the Monty Python lads were inspired by Jones' dry wit. It's just a flesh wound!

Amazing classic
To sum it up, you swing the weight of the club head and think of nothing else in your stroke. He says more, but that was my big takeaway. Forget positions, they are just window dressing. Swinging the weight of the club head is where it’s at.

A Must Read For Any Golfer
Unlike much of today's positional swing instruction, Ernest Jones describes what a golf swing really is. Very few golfers really understand this and would do well to read this book. Jones emphasizes FEELING the swinging motion as a means to consistency. Until you can identify and feel a swing, it is useless work on golf swing positions and actually may impede your progress as a golfer. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to truly understand the essence of the golf swing.

Smply Brilliant!
I have given this review the title "simply brilliant" as that sums the book up. The advice is brilliant and is put across in a simple, easy to understand style. After not playing for over a year, my return to golf was less than successful. In fact it was dire. Since reading "Swinging into Golf" my game has improved significantly and from the depths of despair and threatening to give up the game I now look forward eagerly to my next round.

Poor substitute
Its the same book as Ernest Jones, Swing the Clubhead with a different title and book cover. Don't purchase if you have read the original Swing the Clubhead

What an outstanding insight into the golf swing Ernest Jones has, he understood the movement of the club, and the resulting outcomes, that many of today's teachers are still yet to learn. In sometimes complex explanations Jones makes it sensible and simple

If you only ever read one golf instruction book - this should be it!
An absolute classic. This book is the basis for the teachings of so many of today's so-called experts. There is nothing new in golf instruction. Read Ernest Jones, Percy Boomer, Harry Vardon, etc, and you will learn far more than David Leadbetter et al could ever teach you!

All you need to know about a good swing
This is an excellent example of a well written book and one soon gets to know that despite all the new technology that has gone into the production of new clubs and balls, the main fundamentals have not changed at all. It is eminently readable without much jargon and something one would come back and read for the shear joy it gives one.
