The New Church Anthem Book

I have always enjoyed the anthems in this collection
This book is used by our choir, and this copy replaced mine, which mysteriously disappeared. I have always enjoyed the anthems in this collection, which are equally appropriate for liturgical and non-liturgical services. I would highly recommend this book to any church choir that takes its music seriously. There are no praise songs in this collection. The music ranges from easy to moderately difficult. One example of the 'easier' anthems is 'Never Weather Beaten Sail,' by Charles Wood: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k8TjWEaBVd4

A well rounded selection of timeless church anthems.
This volume has an array of excellent anthems. This has been used in a congregational church in Old Wethersfield, CT for many years and contains some of the classics (Bach's Jesu Joy) as well as less known anthems to CT audiences that are quite effective. These books hold up for many years with care. It is heavy, but one could always copy the song desired for performance with the publisher's permission.

Wonderful Selections
Wonderful selections - a lot of bang for your buck. This is a staple in our choir with something for every season of the liturgical year. I do wish that it were published with a spiral back, since most of us have had to add that on our own. This is a fairly substantial volume and doesn't lay flat naturally.

A good book
I received the book within 15 days of ordering. I liked the book very much. However I have two suggestions to make.1) The book could have been organized according to liturgical events2) More Anthems for advent and christmas could have been included as it is as important liturgical event as lenten and easter

Excellent
I chose this rating because the anthems in the book not only met the needs of the choir I am working with here in Liberia but I'm also encourages me to do more for the choir in regarding some training relative to Music Appreciation.

"The" Great Church Hymns Compendium
One of the finest collection of church hymns that I have ever encountered. Most of the composers of the 100 hymns are from the great tradition of the Anglican church, but your Bruckner, Bach, Schubert, Palestrina etc, are there as well.

New Church Anthem Book
This useful book has been around for nearly twenty years now. In one volume there are 100 anthems from the Renaissance to the present day and suitable for most seasons, all arranged alphabetically by title, and including several well-loved numbers by John Rutter.Choirs of moderate to good ability find the collection a great foundation to build on. Although the volume is not dirt cheap, you get a lot of music for your money. The only disadvantage of the paperback copy for the accompanist is its tendency not to stay open on the music desk.

That is the book I wanted. The book has ...
That is the book I wanted. The book has been sent abroad to another High Anglican Church Quire. They were desperate and would benefit the Anglican tradition in worshiping and Glorifying God. To those who have sung the anthems will find every note is done as required.

My review of The New Churh Anthem book
This is without doubt the most useful anthem book in circulation and I needed extra copies for my choir so I was delighted to find them at a reasonable price. I was already familiar with this publication.

Would have preferred hard back, but this is all that was available. Very useful with my Church Choir.

Magnificent book, but warning: this edition has thin paper.
This book is packed full of magnificent music, and has been a standard in my choir for many years. Like previous editions, the pages are well bound and stay open with ease. From new, it can be opened on a surface ranging from flat to 70 degrees and no page will float up.Unlike previous editions, however, the paper is thinner, and renders it harder to precisely thumb through - riffling to "Page 245" takes longer, and if your hands are dry, the final approach to the page itself can be frustrating. Corner-folding is less robust, since the fold will not stand proud for so long. The print quality is as good as previous editions, but again, thin paper means that in some lights, some pages suffer from slight transparency. For gentle use, such considerations are minor - I certainly do not want to subtract more than one point from the rating, but it is only fair to warn that in this edition, certain musical works may put the paper under strain. 'Quam Gloriosum' has several page-turns at moments of high intensity, polyphonic pieces are responsible for desperate page-flipping amongst the lost and unrehearsed, and, when hand-holding the book, the white knuckles and vice-like thumbs of basses bellowing, "Inaestimaaaaaaabile sacramennnnnntuuuuuuum!" in Bruckner's 'Locus Iste', impose their own form of jeopardy. Within my attempt at humour is the serious point that this edition imposes risks and difficulties when navigating in the heat of rehearsal or performance.
