Got our money's worth
Third season with these here in NJ. They are loud enough, work great, pair easily, and are made well. I left them outside all winter last year and they have been fine. One even fell from about 4 feet onto a rock bed during a recent wind storm and once I put the wire back on place, it played perfectly. Great outdoor speakers.

Item Rcvd Appears to be Used, Refurbished or?....
I ordered a set of these speakers last weekend for use this coming weekend on 5/2. My family has been cooped up for weeks due to the COVID-19 situation so I thought we would have a nice BBQ and relax outside since the weather will be great.Well, they came today but when I opened the outer box, I noticed the product packaging had been retaped. From experience, this could either be indicative of tampering, a customer return, refurbishment or simply re-taping of a box that had come open in the whse, etc. When I took out both speakers, I noticed one (the one without the power button) appeared to have some kind of residue around the seam where the grille meets the housing, as if a sealant had been used to close it up. Now, I might chalk this up to poor QA on the manufacturer's part (I've seen worse in my career), but the other speaker was completely clean in this respect. I also noticed some dirt residue on one of the mounting knobs and paint missing from the two brass nuts imbedded on the housing in the back. The latter is typically what you would see if someone had mounted bolts into those holes. The other speaker still had white paint on them.I tried calling the vendor (AV-Express) during business hours but no one picked up. I tried leaving a message per the voicemail but their inbox was full so I sent them an email instead also per their VM.I'm waiting to hear back from them on what they think might have happened and advice as to what my options are as I would really like to avoid a return but I also am not particularly happy if the one speaker turns out to be a refurb, blemished goods, used, etc. especially since I paid full price for new. I also am an older person with underlying health issues that make me more susceptible to the virus everyone is trying to avoid so I would really rather not interact with others right now by trying to return this.Anyhow, I did plug them in to at least get a feel for how they perform. Honestly, I was a little disappointed. The sound was tinny and it was difficult to get consistent sound between different kinds of music. I'm using my phone and I did play around with the equalizer settings like one user suggested which helped to some extent. Unfortunately, phones are relatively limited in this regard. The problem is my little Bose SoundLink mono speaker has a richer sound than these. I'm thinking of experimenting with one of our PCs I can dedicate for music duties since I have more flexibility in adjusting the audio.I will update this review once I hear back from AV-Express as to what they believe might have happened in my situation and if they have any solutions that may help me beyond a return. I'll also keep playing with the settings.

WOW! Great Outdoor bluetooth speakers for a great price!
These speakers will blow your mind right out of the box! I am so impressed I cant wait to hang them outside in my patio area. I just received them and I must say, the volume level goes way up nicely! I read reviews with complaints about volume levels and My I-phone almost blew the doors off my spare room with the loudness once I raised the volume level. I was afraid I was going to crack the speakers! They are pretty amazing for sure. I purchased these in white to replace my old white BOSE speakers which I had used for many years though hooked up with a receiver. What makes these special is there is NO receiver to hook up. The drivers are built right into the units. Just plug in when ready to use as the system begins to look for bluetooth connectivity. I pair it in seconds with my I-phone and boom! Pun intended! That in itself is worth the money. I played a classic "SWEET DREAMS" remix (Winati, Moonshine, Bellman Featuring Louise CS) I literally wanted to blow the speakers!! lol! I will come back and review once I hang them outside, but straight out of the box and I was floored! UPDATE 7/25/20: a week or so later and these speakers are truly awesome. I bought a junction box on amazon, made of plastic to house the plugin and speaker cords. Just open the box, plug drops out and boom, plug and play baby! 👍. I needed plenty of speaker wire so ordered a 50 footer of speaker wire 18 gauge. Awesome! I truly recommend these speakers to all! Good luck!

Excellent for the intended purpose
I'm very pleased. They were plug and play (plug them in, turn them on, pair with Bluetooth).I took them the next step and installed them with the included brackets (no screws provided, but wood screws do well) on our back patio (see product photos I uploaded). Hid the power and speaker wire in the attic. Some things to note:These are VERY sensitive to WiFi interference. When I first tested them, I set them up next to my router. The range was poor and was constantly cutting out. Rethink using these if you are planning to set them up in the immediate area of the router. Mine are about 25 feet away and have good range. They work very well with the Galaxy S5, the iPhone 5, and the B&N Nook. Range is excellent (especially with the Galaxy) and sound is solid. The Droid RAZR Maxx leaves some to be desired. It connects fine, but was most susceptible to the aforementioned interference. The minimum volume is also too loud, though I suspect an app could fix that. The speakers have NO bass. They sound in my opinion excellent in the mid range, which I think is the most important thing for the way I'm using them. Don't expect any thump, but your neighbors will likely appreciate that missing. The main speaker has a physical hardware power switch, so they can be power cycled by power rather than using the switch. This is important when installing where they can't be reached. I use an RF power switcher with its own remote to cycle the power. Common for Christmas lights; just make sure you get one that can handle the power rating of the speakers. The blue LED is bright! I would have covered it with tape if I could have gotten the speaker grill off.The turn-on and Bluetooth connection sounds are only momentary but very loud.So overall, I love them. Much easier than the alternative of normal speakers paired with a normal amplifier, Bluetooth adapter, etc.I will report back about longevity.Edit, January 2021: These are still working perfectly over 6 years and multiple phones later! I've bumped them from 4 to 5 stars because of that.
