If you have any interest in ayahuasca, read this book
A rare glimpse at hunter/gatherer life in the Amazon and how ayahuasca plays an important role.

Stranger than fiction
This isn’t necessarily the kind of ayahuasca book that provides many spiritual insights or guidance, but it is a completely enthralling tale of a young man captured by the Huni Kui tribe and trained to be a shaman over the course of the seven years he spent with them. It is fascinating to gain insight into how the tribe worked with ayahuasca, using it to teach hunting even, a big contrast to your typical modern ayahuasca retreat. An incredible tale, and well told.

Hard to put this book down!
A delightful glance in to a way of living which most of the world has forgotten. An experience of living in a tribe deep within the rain forest, this true story is never dull or slow but continues to keep the reader entranced until the end. One of those books where you feel at least a little sad that the book is over, wanting to keep reading/living this story of life in the rain forest according to the way that people have been living for thousands of years, and to this day still live deep within the refuge of the rain forest. This book also provides glimpses into the magic or the amazon and her people, with amazing plant medicines, especially but not limited to yage, with her magical visions teaching higher levels of perception, clairvoyance, deeper harmony, and knowledge of the forest and all creatures. This book is recommended to anyone and everyone who feels the sacred calls of the spirit of the Amazon...

A WIZZARD BOOK IN MANY MANY WAYS
I could go on and on about this important book and what it has meant to me. The intelligence of the tribal chief and his ability to lead and teach his members is incredible. His method of tribal dispute resolution is fascinating. The approach to diabetes is very interesting. This story is one of the great stories of the 20 century and is not nearly well-known enough. An important read for everyone, especially those of college age, as this "kid" received a triple PHD between the ages of 15 and 22 that I actually envy, and am glad it happened to him and not me. It really even goes into the value of this type of hands on education without ever mentioning it although the author is an important educator of the academic type himself.

Ayahuasca, and the Kani Kui.
Could NOT put this story down. Transported into another world. Love stories of this caliber, that speak to first hand experiences living among Native Populations. Such a great read!

What a great read!
"Time seemed suspended; there was only now and now was infinite."Just finished the story of Ino Moxo - The Black Panther, as told by Bruce Lamb. An engrossing tale of life deep in the Amazonian jungle where shared ayahuasca vision quests provide the cohesion necessary to survive and thrive. What a great read!

Emerald Forest film from the 1980s based loosely on this amazing and true account of living amongst native S American Indians
I bought this book as I have been a fan of the film, Emerald Forest, since I was a child. This book does not disappoint though it is not the same as the film (which is based loosely on this account); it is a true account of one man's time living amongst the native peoples of S America (Huni Kui) and gives vivid accounts of taking natural plant narcotics which lead to vibrant communal visions. Read it!

A nice easy read account of one mans unexpected sojourn with some Amazonian tribespeople. For most people here the main draw will be to read about the use of the pyscho-active plant Ayahuasca in traditional methods.Undoubtedly that does form an interesting part of the book but I also personally found his whole description of his time spent with these people to be a fascinating insight into a world and way of living that may well of already passed into folklore and history. The book is an easy read and can be finished in one or two sittings.Recommended reading for anyone who has an interest in plant medicine, shamanism or indigenous ways of living.I would be interested to read the follow up book as well but see that it goes for large sums here on Amazon.
