A stunning masterpiece!
Wow. Just wow. I had to wait twenty four hours to even be able to write this review. Ms. Hunter has done it again, but then, she always does. But this book..... this book.... has almost made me incoherent. I realize that fans of Ms. Hunters have a soft spot for Malachi and Ava from the Irin Chronicles. After all, those characters are the ones that sent us all down the wondrous rabbit hole of Hunter Heaven. But. My favorite characters have always been Damien and Sari. Their story was heart wrenching to say the least. That tale could not have been easy to write, and it was certainly not easy to read. I can now say with certainty that Max and Renata are my second favorite Irin and Irina. Their story is almost parallel with Damien and Sari, as Renata is a warrior. She is fierce and protective and independent and a hard woman to love. But Max does. Gah! These men!The Irin world has changed and will continue to do so, so where does all the pain and anger go after centuries of bloodshed and horror? This tale is ultimately about rebirth, about turning hundreds of years of war into forgiveness, healing, peace and love. Rebirth of the races. Rebirth of a culture. Rebirth of a people. Max knew that change had to occur. He needed to convince Renata that after the horror of the Rendering, that love and healing were possible. He was determined not to give up on her. He. Was. Relentless. How do you give up on the love of your life? His words will make you wail. Not weep. Not sob. Not cry. You will wail the snotty kind of tears. And you will think of this book long after you have finished it. Pure poetry.Thank you Elizabeth for a glimpse of future characters. I think that the Irin and Irina's future lies in the hands of the children. Doesn't it always?Bravo Ms. Hunter for another gift. This one is a true treasure.

The most beautiful story this author ever wrote
This book includes two novellas. The Storm which tells us story of Max and Renata (earlier published in the Amid The Winter Snow anthology) and Song for the Dying that takes us back to Max and Leo’s childhood home. Both stories are 5 star reads for me but Song For The Dying is in my opinion the most beautiful heartbreaking and heartwarming story this author has written to date. It touched my heart and made me stare at the wall after I finished it. So so beautiful!

So satisfying
I read Max and Renata’s story and enjoyed it so much that I savored it for a couple days before going on to A SONG FOR THE DYING. It too is a wonderful story. One is a love story between a man and a woman. The other is a love story of a family. Max and Leo had a difficult upbringing with little love shown to them. When they heard their grandfather was dying they returned home with their mates, learning more about family and love through their journey.I have to say that Elizabeth Hunter is one author that has never disappointed me . Every book has been enjoyable, some more than others, but jewels in comparison with other things I occasionally read.

The Storm
Renata - strength and hidden vulnerability beneath stone walls she has created. Maxim - devious, relentless when it comes to what he wants, and he wants Renata. These two have been on my "i want more of them" list since we met them in the Irin Chronicles. Hunter has a magic way of getting her stories to touch the reader's heart. Reading this and the included Song for the Dying, will have you opening your heart to beauty of survival, of love, and forgiveness.

Worth the pain
This is not an easy story. But it is a terrifically wonderful romance. Renata is in pain. She is full of anger because she lost everyone she loved when the Irin were attacked and they lost half of their total population. Maxim has loved her since the first time he saw her. But she resists him for years. If you like your romance with some tension you will love this story.

Breathtakingly Beautiful...
The Irin Chronicles is one of my favorite series to read. Book six, The Storm, is a tender, captivating love story between Irin Scribe Maxim and Singer Renata. The love, pain, and passion between these two characters entrance the reader. In the bonus novella, Song for the Dying, we learn more about Maxim and Leo as they are called home to witness the death of their grandfather. The depth of these characters, setting, and plot lines makes this a must read series. If you have not yet read this, or any of the Irin Chronicles, I implore you to do so. You will not be disappointed.

I always wondered about Max and Leo
What a wonderful pairing! The Silent is Leo and Kyra’s story that stands apart from The Storm, which is the culmination of Max and Renata’s courtship. But A Song for the Dying ties those two stories together, by dropping more information about the beginning of the cousins lives. A tale for a fireplace.

A quick but good read
The storm is a quick read but still packs a punch. This is Renata and Max's story and you won't be disappointed. Renata and Max fight as hard as they love each other. I don't want to give anything away but there is a ton in this book that is just amazing. Max and Renata didn't need an entire novel so this fits really well with them. It answers a lot of questions I had as a reader of the series about these 2 characters.

Absolutely Brilliant. I have read it twice and I will possibly return to the story again. I absolutely loved conclusion to the story of Max and Renata as well as Grigori family thread into the story and Renata's trauma. What a brilliant mind!Elizabeth rocks and I am very thankful for her unique imagination and talent to tell good story. Irin Chronicles are my favourite of Elizabeth books.

Loved this book
I am a total fan of Elizabeth Hunter's books and so much of a fan that had already purchased The Storm in the anthology but got it again for the short story and cannot wait to read more. The plot and writing Elizabeth weaves and the research that goes into all of her books is amazing. The imagery she creates in my mind is brilliant. I recommend this book and any of her other series to everybody.
