Hope for stage 4 cancer
Jane McLelland's book is a must read if you have cancer. I am a pharmacist and have stage 4 uterine cancer. There are 2 opposing camps in cancer treatment, the traditional surgery/chemo/radiation approach or the alternative cancer treatment camp. Either you are in one or the other and many people stake their lives on either of them. Jane's book combines both. Herself a stage IV cervical ca survivor, basically uses repurposed drugs to combat cancer metabolically, whereas conventional does not touch that. Cancer stem cells are what causes cancer to return, sometimes with a vengeance. This is what has happened to me. Being trained in traditional medicine, it has taken me years to overcome the dogma of traditional medicine. When you finally realize that YOU are in charge of your health and that the oncologist does not and cannot determine what your outcome will be IF you decide to take control. There is no one size fits all and both camps seem to fall into that thinking. Every body is different, every cancer is different. It takes a lot of hard work to research and study to understand how cancer takes over in your body. Jane's book does a lot of that work for you BUT, you still have to do your own digging. I really liked that. I have read and reread it. Being a pharmacist, it makes sense to me, but you have to read it yourself. Don't let yourself get stuck in either of the opposing camps. There is much good on both sides. Kudos to Jane for telling her story and sharing her hard work. Read this book!!!

PRACTICAL SOLUTION AND GOOD FOR THE SOUL
Every time I've picked up Jane's book I've shed a few tears of joy. I felt that someone can relate. I am not the cancer patient but the care giver to my best friend and the love of my life. I'm the rock, the researcher, the planner, the one with the solutions but I was scared and this book pacified my doubts. Before Jane's book I was partially winging it and crossing my fingers and praying that all of what I've lined up for my husband will work. I pressed the "I believe" button regarding metabolic theory but Jane's book tied it all nicely for me. It plugged the missing holes how to starve it and most importantly what to use and how to do it. I felt so alone and neurotic scouring through scientific studies and spending countless hours researching. Jane did the research for you. You have to do some legwork but provides a clear roadmap. The despair, the anger, the hope, the plan, the future; it's all in this book. Every cancer patient, care-giver, a loved one should read this. Not only will it help you with a plan, it helps your soul. You will be able to relate with her stories. After reading it, I said to my husband, if Jane (as if I know her) can beat her cancer with 12 weeks to live, we should be able to beat yours.

There is no book out there like this one- it could save your life. Science based and Brilliant.
As a doctor and caregiver to a family member with stage IV cancer, what Jane has put together in this book is urgently needed and a gift to humanity. There is a great deal of research on the anti-cancer effects of select off-label drugs, but for the layperson, and even for the professional, the task of sifting through the research and trying to determine which one of these medications is most efficacious, how to match the cancer type with the medications, and which medications to pair together, is herculean, if not impossible, especially within the short life expectancy given to stage IV. If you can shut off cancer's metabolism, you can kill it. Jane has provided us with a map of how to shut down cancer metabolism using low toxicity medications and supplements. For those who have stage IV, this book provides hope. Most stage IV cancer diagnoses are given less than a year to live and face high dose chemotherapy and radiation to even extend life by a few months. Why not try this? You have nothing to lose as it can be done along with conventional treatment. There are more and more doctors and patients sharing their success stories with this type of approach. My husband and I are one of those success stories. While we are still in the ring, he is in complete remission and has outlived his diagnosis. Thank you Jane and all others who are working so hard to bring this information to those who need it. We are in your debt.

A must read for anyone with cancer
I have cancer. I have bought several books since being diagnosed that I hoped would help or maybe even give me THE answer. I have found some good advice that I’m trying to incorporate. However this book, and the author, is giving me real hope. It makes sense. It’s all about battling cancer from all fronts, and cutting off it’s fuel which is not just sugar. I’m lucky in the sense that I am able to dive into trying to make my body as healthy as possible while I wait for my leukemia to advance. Can I stop that from happening? I don’t know but I’m going to try. This book is not an alternative treatment – it does not take the place of actual cancer treatment if you need it. The information within this book is meant to work with everything that you do – treatment, food, exercise, supplements, along with re-purposed drugs that will metabolically target the cancer cells and hopefully help starve them......to death. I recommend this book and it’s very caring author 100%.

A challenging read but worth it...
I have stage 4 ovarian cancer and bought this book a few weeks ago after several people in one of my groups recommended it. Since it arrived, I've plodded through it twice while taking copious notes, too. I'm not much of a science person, so it was a challenging read for me and I have to admit that I didn't understand very much of the content. Luckily, Jane has also created a Facebook group for dummies like me, where there are a lot of members who understand what she's saying and are happy to answer questions and get you going on the right track. Jane herself is also very helpful in explaining the protocol and answering question -- this is a true labor of love for her and she's eager to help as many people as she can. I'm very grateful to her for giving so many people hope and the power to be partners in their treatment.

A cancer bible must have for anyone affected by cancer
I was hesitant to write a review as I don't know if I can do this book justice.I was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer in October 16. I was pretty much told there was a bit of palliative relief available but that I could expect to die within 2 years - if I was lucky. Lucky?! No cancer in my family and never thinking it would happen to me, I had nowhere to turn and on the heels of a damning prognosis I started searching for success stories, anything to help, scouring the internet for people who've turned this around. Truly petrified.I came across Jane and her Facebook page a few months later and threw my out pouring of grief and confusion onto the page and I had so many helpful and genuinely positive responses that I actually finally felt maybe I wasn't doomed just yet. With the help and guidance of the page I managed to regain some control of my situation. Being able to pick the brains of real people is so helpful. Jane herself often comments and offers advice and is very much 'hands on' on the page too which is testament to how much she wants to help people.I remember seeing her mention that there might be a book... of course we were all then desperate to read it!It arrived on my kindle shortly after midnight on release day . I had waited up for it and I started it straight away.Jane gives a true and honest account of what must've been a horrific time for her. You get drawn into Jane's story and you can't help but admire and be in awe of her tenacity and her absolute belief that she could beat her cancer. It's personal enough to feel her pain and certainly as a cancer sufferer to feel empathy for the despair of chemo side effects and having no hair etc but also its educational and I've already started reading it again with a pen and paper. The second half of the book is the 'science' bit. This I had to read slowly to take it all in. Jane captures that perfect point between scientific and full of explanations but also straightforward and easy to follow.I've already spotted areas in my own situation where I'm not doing things right and now I can understand those areas in a much more accessible way than just randomly googling and hoping to stumble across the answer.I have drawn up my own 'spot of bother' chart, written a list of supplements to explore and started researching to find an integrative Dr to help me with dosing etc for optimal response. It is not just a book, it's a cancer bible must have for anyone who isn't prepared to sit back and die just because a Dr has told them so. Many Drs could do with reading this book..Next step for Jane - hopefully a clinic!

A PERSONAL TOUR DE FORCE: FINALLY & ULTIMATELY 'DE MYSTIFYING' CANCER'S MALEVOLENCE!
I initially hesitated to write a review and NOT because this 'game-changer' of- if I may say so- THE ultimate Do It Yourself Cancer -Compendium was not 'worthy'! Quite the opposite in fact! No, it was because all the other wonderfully uplifting and heart warming reviews on Amazon echoed MY sentiments absolutely!I was diagnosed with Stage 3c ('at least', as my Oncologist poetically put it!...), Ovarian/Peritoneal Cancer in July 2016; and I had my 1st Chemo'; whilst in hospital being 'drained' of malignant ascites the day before my birthday!!! after the unspeakable mind-numbing disbelief I was quickly 'swallowed up' in the Cancer virtual 'reality' world with rounds of Clinic and hospital appointments. I was given 6 IV treatments of 3 weekly Carboplatin/Paclitaxel, Chemotherapy. At the end of my 4 months Chemotherapy I 'enjoyed' (I was on a 'high', having 'escaped' all the evil 'doings' that those drugs could have dumped on my compromised system) a brief respite before I had a complete Hysterectomy in January 2017, with an appendectomy thrown in for free! I recovered quickly and withoutcomplications/serious side effects. Consequently I felt 'reborn' when 'It' was ALL OVER and I could just get on with my life; after all I (naively!) reasoned had I not kicked Breast Cancer's (stage 2B oestrogen receptive with 6 FEC Chemotherapy treatments followed by 4 weeks of Radiotherapy a subsequent Mastectomy?) ass in 2004 without a backward glance? Silly silly me!The only thing I may say here is that grief, poor sleep patterns, CHOCOLATE, low thyroid and general dissatisfaction with one's life did NOfavours for yours truly.....enter my next and brand 'new' Cancer 12 years on!My carefree 'Cancer-free' existence screeched to an unexpected and ungracious halt: at the beginning of this year, I had my recurrence 'It' re-visited me (actually the malevolent 'goblIns'/ aka stem-cells had NEVER left me had they?) and I was once more in the 'Ovarian-world' and starting the familiar rounds of Chemotherapy. I am still having Chemotherapy 8+ months on although I now have weekly 'taxol' having sustained 2 allergic reactions to Carboplatin.Enough of moi and enter the INDOMITABLE J McLELLAND and her, to quote Professor Thomas Seyfried, 'monumental accomplishment'....If I had NOT stumbled across such a book-although I would call it a silent but dynamic 'friend' constantly cheering you on - I KNOW that my Palliative Cancer would have the last word sooner rather than later, because my particular treatment options are rather sparse on the ground....THIS is the power of Jane's gift and offering of both herself and ALL the scientific, Oncological, data and scrupulously, meticulously backed up information that she brings to bear on all who take the opportunity to avail themselves of nothing less than a dazzling vista that demonstrates the palpable, exciting hope and ultimately Cancer-free progression that her 'OFF LABEL DRUGS COMBO'; in conjuction with the low GI diet and careful 'relevant' supplementation can/does achieve!!! For the first time the previously hard to assimilate intricacies and the living realities that are 'multi-pathways', are mercilessly sliced open with the cool precision of any consummate surgeon and revealed to us non medical persons! Blimey! We can now truly be pro active with our treatments and beyond because we now 'have the power'!!!! If we so choose of course.Since I started the Off Label Drugs Protocol at The Care Oncology Clinic, I have noticed 'changes' to my condition; without going into all the highly personal and 'delicate' details, I was having serious 'problems' in my pelvic region and in a relatively short period of time those symptoms have improved considerably! At first I thought it was just a 'coincidence' and that it was soley the 'taxol' that I was having but I am now convinced that the real improvement has been facilitated - aided and abetted by the 'taxol' - by the 3 off label drugs that I take: METFORMIN, DOXYCYCLINE, ATORVASTIN and 'VERMOX', alongside Jane's 'favourite' Berberine plus a few more others! Finally I urge all you who have any reason whatsoever at all to want to read such a 10 STAR BOOK, then please DO if only for one reason; nothing short than A LIFE; of light and hope exists for those of us who have felt 'reigned in grief' and powerless with our prognosis and the inevitable that surely awaited; more Chemotherapy until the body just 'gave up the ghost'....Jane explains ALL this and so much more in a captivating and compassionate narrativeIf 'Fortune favours the brave' , it unequivocably DID with THIS author !!!!

If you've got cancer, this is THE book to ...
If you've got cancer, this is THE book to read. I'm about a third way through as I'm writing this. I've already learned some critical knowledge that I hadn't previously realised could be so important. I've been obsessed about health & nutrition all my life. Just one of the new insights I'm learning, only from reading this book, is that certain foods and supplements that are healthy and positive for preventing cancer, or preventing or treating cardiovascular problems, diabetes and other chronic health conditions will actually support the development and spread of cancer if you've already got it.There's so much more in the book than that obviously. Including the huge motivational force that Jane transmits. To take responsibility - to get beyond the fear, anxiety, apathy, resignation, reliance on the standard of care alone, etc. It’s clear you and your team can beat this most threatening foe given the right knowledge and tools and confidence! Jane has provided the map to what is otherwise an unknown territory.

Too much of a biography and not enough practical information
Since I was first diagnosed with Cancer 8 years I had often thought of writing a book about my journey and sharing the things I had learned but was afraid my book would be too personal and boring. In effect I was afraid of writing a book like this.72% of the book is a biography of her journey - and whilst it is nice to learn of others' journeys so you can compare and share, I found this a little hard going and much of it unnecessary. I bought the book because of the title 'How to starve Cancer' and for it to be only a quarter of the actual content was very disappointing. It really should be re-titled 'My journey with Cancer and how i starved it' but I guess then, someone looking for practical help would not buy it, thereby reducing sales!Like the author, 8 years ago, I spent months looking into my Cancer, various non-traditional treatment alternatives and new research, I would bombard my oncologist with questions about new research etc upon every meeting (to which, I might add, he was very accommodating). But while it is good to relate various possibilities to actual experiences etc this book is a bit much. Once it did get into the nitty gritty of actually starving cancer and the how-tos, for anyone currently faced with trying to defeat this monster, they would be faced with a difficult task to take the information and put it into effect. Basically, if you are currently fighting Cancer and what to take charge and be a foot soldier yourself and get into the battle rather than watch from the sidelines as doctors prescribe all their traditional treatments (all of which, without exception, are toxic to you as well as the Cancer) read other books before you read this one! I have read numerous books over the years, often gleaning some insight or practical advice from them but with this one, the first time I read it I found it confusing and overwhelming. It took a second read for it to be of any use to me (and this is coming from someone who has read many books, many research papers and several medical textbooks which are usually not easily available to the public). The author made, what I see as, quite a flippant remark in: "Unlike others who wait until cancer returns before acting, I was proactive." I found this to be extremely harsh. A majority of cancer sufferers struggle with the diagnosis, then struggle with the reality of it all and their first point of call is traditional medicine which they then put their full trust in. After all, the 'cure' figures are good aren't they? After 5 years they get the all clear and believe their struggle is over and try to get on with life. Very few actually realise, that there is no real cure, certainly not one that is achieved after a one off treatment plan. For most the cancer will return and yes, while I agree with the author, that it is prudent to continue some sort of action plan yourself, for the majority this is not the case but only because they trust in the health system. I found the comment ill thought out and self-righteous. The minority who pursue a continued regimen against cancer, they usually end up writing books about it!! That should say a lot.All of the curative suggestions in the book are through drugs in one form or another. This in itself can only lead to further problems. Long term use of prescription drugs, we know, leads to additional problems other than those symptoms the drugs are intended to treat. It would have been nice to know that some natural therapies had been followed. Something that is less harmful to the body and has potential long term possibilities to incorporate into your lifestyle. In short, I would have to say. This is clearly the route the author took to attack and defend but personally I see little difference long term, between this and traditional toxic treatments. There are many more books that should be read before you embark upon any advice given in this book.

Learn for the experience of those who survived
As a person diagnosed with cancer in 2014 i have spent much time exploring and researching information from many different sources to support my ongoing journey. I am a nurse and very aware that our NHS model of care is pharmaceutical medical focused. Health is complex. Illness is complex. Healing within the NHS framework feels limiting. Frameworks intended to standardise and create consistency have inadvertently become barriers. For me the most valuable available evidence stems from those who have been diagnosed with cancer and either achieved remission, healed or are living well managing their cancer or a very close relative's cancer. If you assess motivation to get it right those people have it. Jane's book offers valuable experience with specific links to her underpinning evidence. Her approach to presenting the information is very helpful and if you need further discussion or clarity this is available through her facebook group. I highly reccommend this book to anyone (patients and practitioners) seeking a detailed understanding of the metabolic approach to addressing cancer. This is very unlikely to be an approach you have been offered within your treatment so adding it in gives you another tool to achieving health. Thank you Jane for sharing your research and learning.
