A True Gem
One of the greatest DAC/headphone amps ever. I actually owned one years ago, my first portable amp, and sold it to make way for the newer, jazzier, devices with multiple connection options––mistake. And it was the gold version which you can't get now, so my sense of "What was I thinking?" will last forever. IMO, this is the best sounding portable that Cypher Labs ever produced. The sound of the Theorem 720––connected to a good old iPod Classic 160GB filled to the brim with AAC and ALAC files––is powerful, beautiful in tone, deep yet precise, and close to the analogue sound of a great stereo set you listened to at neighbor's house when you were a kid. A gem.

Fantastic!
This DAC has been great so far and it works with my Nexus 5 on CM11 (with USB Audio Player Pro) and out of the box with my Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 with kitkat update. I had a Sony PHA-2 but that PHA-2 no matter what I tried just would not work with my android devices unless I wanted to use the analog in and amp the horrible hissy audio from my Nexus 5, I sent the PHA-2 back and got the Theorem 720, while very expensive it is much much better. The only gripe I have about it is I wish the USB port was on the rear instead of the front (It's a mini B USB port by the way). They include many cables to work with i-'things' and a mini B to Micro B USB cable for android that cable is very cool, You don't need an OTG adapter. It's headphone amp is quite nice too, it powers my Beyerdynamic DT990/600 headphones well unlike the sony PHA-2 I had it's amp was very weak. Line out is very good too, it's a real line out.It may be expensive but it's worth it. It does work with android and Nexus, it works great on Windows 7, samsung devices with kitkat run it out of the box.

superb
This ia simply the best headphone amp I own......I'll pay easily $1000 for these sophisticated yet unassuming amp.....I received a sony pha2 recently but the sound is way too warm and harsh......this on the other hand is sonically near perfect and natural sounding with almost zero distortion. .I'm truly amazed that a portable amp can sound as good as an expensive home amplifier..NO JOKE.....I also ordered the centrance hifi-m8 but the waiting time is 3 months unfortunately.....if money is no impediment. .buy it....it is simply amazing!

make the ipod really sing
allows you to replace the lower quality DAC (digital to analog converters) in the newest generation ipods with one even better than the originals. the amplifier allows you to use almost any headphone away from home

Excellent sound quality -
I bought this after doing some research on DACs and headphone amplifiers and ended up following the recommendation of an audio expert I respect. I am honestly vey impressed. I use it with my iPod and it has raised the level of my ear phones many levels. My long term goal is to purchase some Audeze headphones, which will allow me to really utilize the headphone amplifier. Highly recommended.

Total Satisfaction
I have spent untold thousands on quality audio gear over the years and have been totally happy with only a few components. This Theorem 720 Dac, my Zana Deux tube headphone amp, my Sennheiser HD800 headphones, my Grado RS1i headphones and my Shure SRH1540 closed headphones make up most of the short list. I have a closet full of expensive Grado, Denon, Sennheiser and other headphones plus other portable amps which I rarely use.I combine the Theorem with an iPod 160GB Classic which is ok since the Theorem bypasses the questionable Apple dac and amp in the iPod and uses only the digital as a source. The Classic works fine for that.As I get older I value listenability over perfect reproduction of the sound. Often the treble is too hot for me for long listening sessions with some of my headphone and amp combos (think Grado), but this is not a problem with the Theorem with the right headphones. The Theorem is detailed and slightly warm with very pleasant treble. Paired with the Shure 1540s the sound is perfect for me. I can listen for hours with no problem. Even though the HD800s with the Zana Deux amp provide cleaner and more linear output, given the choice at home I often choose the Theorem-Shure combo over the HD800-Zana Deux combo. It's that good. And it has the power to drive even my most demanding headphones. Even the HD800s sound better than expected with the Theorem. But there is one caveat. If you plan to use the Theorem with iems you may encounter some hiss. It isn't audible with music playing, but if that bothers you it might be best to look elsewhere, especially if you will be using only iems. It's there with my iems and it doesn't bother me, but might not be acceptable to you. I knew about the hiss issue before I bought the Theorem, but I planned to use it mainly with full sized headphones so I'm happy. There is no hiss at all out of even my most sensitive headphones.

A highly versatile and powerful DAC/AMP that is capable of powering both full-sized headphones and IEMs
Prior to purchasing this, I had owned a number of different portable headphone amplifiers, including, Total Airhead, Total Bithead, iBasso T3, iBasso P4, JDS Labs C421, and a few others. I even put together a portable rig using a Red Wine iMod, Amp, and special Alo Dock with super nice caps. Even after all that work, you're still utilizing the iPod DAC.Hence, these new generation of portable DAC/Amps are really a blessing. They might feel slightly bigger than what you're used to but you have to remember that they have both the DAC and AMP in them. Cypher Labs is known for the great DAC (e.g. Algorithm) and this continues it's superiority for portable DACs.I used this with both my HD800s, K1000s, and a bunch of other headphones. Granted, it was the optimal setup for some of those cans, but it did provide sufficient power. The gain switch is nice, but I generally kept it on low.It is a little awkward that the USB input is on the same side as the headphone jack as the first time, I put it in the Line Out jack.Overall, this is great, and I feel that the price is pretty justified. Just wish it came with a 4-pin to Mini XLR adapter cable.
