Description
- The circus is a live show articulated in various performances of physical ability, called numbers, generally performed in a circular track, but also widely, over the centuries as in the current panorama, on a frontal scene. The circus shows take place under the awning, in special buildings (stable circuses), as well as outdoors or in regular theatrical rooms or even in fairly large halls.
- The performances respond to basic categories (moreover flexible and combinable) such as aerial numbers, acrobatics and acrobatics on the ground, juggling, eccentric comedy and the art of clowning, training of animals and equestrian art, risky exhibits such as the unicycle (bicycle with a wheel ).
- In its traditional twentieth-century form, the circus, defined in the Italian language as an equestrian circus, stands out for the characteristic of an itinerant community and for the dynastic belonging of its members. At the end of the twentieth century, with the definition of a new circus, the proliferation of numerous companies and shows of non-traditional provenance and style was legitimized, including the Cirque du Soleil.
- The word circus comes from the Latin circus which, in relation to the form of ancient circuses, means circle. A term that also physically describes the scenic space that distinguishes the classic circus: a round track of about 13 meters, created to allow a harmonious exhibition of the horses that constitute its foundation
