The Matrix wood insert defines the new standards for contemporary look and performance. This appliance looks like a fireplace, but has all the advantages of an insert. It's faceplate and blower assembly were developed to allow a flush finish with the masonry fireplace. Cast iron was selected as the material of choice for this clean and modern unit. Installation into larger openings is facilitated by the use of an optional sheet metal backing plate. This insert will surely become the focal point of the room.

Great modern looking insert stove, great heat, fan noise is loud
Our chimney was collapsing and needed to be rebuilt, so when we had it rebuilt, we built it to fit around this Osburn Matrix Wood Insert stove. After doing a lot of online research I settled on this stove for the modern look of the stove and the positive reviews I found. We've had this in our house for 9 months now and really enjoy the stove. I'm always looking for opportunities to make a fire! So far with a moderately sized fire I've been able to keep the house at 70-75 degrees when outside temperatures were in the low 30s. I'm looking forward to this winter to see if this little stove can keep the house heated when temperatures drop into the 20s and teens. The one thing I wish was different about this stove is the fan. It's not as quiet as I was led to believe. I wish it had a fan speed controller on it so I could turn down the speed and make it a bit quieter.

Not EPA Certified and the fan doesn't push air
It looks great, but that's about it. Unfortunately, the aesthetics take away from the functionality. I ran this before the face was put on and it put out great heat. As soon as the face was installed the blower output was blocked at least 50% by the curved and thick grill, so almost impossible to feel any hot air actually blow out.Not deal breakers for me because the room isn't huge and it isn't our primary source of heat for the house, but anyone relying on this as an insert as a primary heat source will have a cold winter. The most deceptive and disappointing part of the experience was to learn (after installation and contrary to their advertising) the unit is not actually EPA Certified. Which means if you want any kind of rebate from a US State for installation/replacement to an efficient wood insert, this unit will not qualify. This I only learned after my rejection from the State.

Lots of heat. Fan a bit noisy.
I've had one for the past 3 years. I find that it makes a lot of heat. I'm in Southern California but it gets down to the low 30's where I live. I burn ash, eucalyptus, oak and avocado. I'd recommend that you install a double-walled flue liner though they are pricey. I'm heating a large living area with 15' ceilings. The only negative thing for me is that (as others have mentioned) the fan is louder than I'd like. It pushes the heat out but a bit quieter would be nice.Edit: The door does "clunk" if you open it all the way to the right. It's not a big deal for me but they really should have taken care of that in development.

Door handle does not work properly - flops around
Took over 6 months to get the insert from Canada - Worked great for a couple months - then the door handle became lose and extremely difficult to adjust / every with a tech - they were not able to adjust. There are three sentences on page 24 of the owners manual about how to do the adjustment but not easy to understand and totally not user friendly. If had to do over again I would buy a stove that was simple - and not so technical. Spoke to customer service agent for Osborn manufacture and he was useless. Just kept saying follow the directions in the user manual. You would think there would be a YouTube video to explain the adjustment.

If you need heat, don't buy it!
I replaced a 40 year old insert with this one and am not pleased at all. Actually, if it wasn't for all the work involved, I would demand my money back. I researched a lot of stoves (you can do the same thing) and it is really impossible to find any real reviews on these stoves. I bought mine from Woodland Direct and had a very good experience with that company. As with the other reviewer, this stove doesn't heat like it should. And yes, I use nothing but seasoned wood. I rotate my wood through the year so by the burning season all my wood is over a year old, split, and ready to go. So, no, it isn't a problem with the wood. I bought this unit mainly because I really liked how it sat flush into the firebox. Here is a list of pro's and con's.Pro's - it looks good - that's itCon's - it's messy - once a fire is built, the way the door opens, ashes fall out all over the place no matter what you do to prevent it - mine is in the den which is 26 x 16 (416 square feet). The temperature never gets above 67 degrees - it's not well built. The way the front goes together is awful. You have to be careful how far you open the door or it gets stuck on the right side. No matter what you try, it won't adjust out. - the blower is weak. This really should have an variable controlled switch so you could adjust the airflow (which is part of the heat issue) - must buy a stainless steel liner or risk the chance of it not drafting correctly, and meeting code depending on where you live. If you purchase the insulated liner as I did, that keeps the bricks from warming up, and adds to the lack of heat. Plus, that adds around another $1000 bucks to the cost and is a pain to install.I could add more, but you get the point. This stove doesn't put out 70,000 BTU's and won't heat 2100 SQ. So, that is a lie. If it wasn't for the work and cost to send it back I would. Biggest mistake I have made in a long time.

It actually heats my house..
Not sure about the negative reviews. Either yours isn't installed correctly or your doing SOMETHING WRONG.. I didn't buy this stove it was already installed in the house we bought last year. I had my doubts that it would throw much heat but I WAS WRONG. keeps our entire 2100 sqft home plenty warm and it's honestly very efficient.

Would not recommend it.
I own this fireplace insert and can barely heat a room 70 degrees. It took 6 months to get in to United States because it's made in Canada. Would not recommend it.
