Proper tribute to the masterpiece movie
I picked up this book as I love the movie, Billy Elliot. I thought is would remind what I saw in the movie but it is more than that. It is filling in the parts for the audiences to guess such as how his mom was like and how Tony feels like during fhe strike. For those who like the movie, they are going to love this book too.

A good companion with the DVD
I enjoy the movie/DVD dramatization of Billy Budd but find that the heavy accents of the actors make some of the plot hard to follow. The book does not try to convey the accents and makes some of the nuances of the plot and of Billy's interactions with his friends much clearer. I like having both the DVD and the book, rather than either alone. The story line in the book follows that in the movie closely, except for one detail regarding the raising of money for Billy's trip to London

Just enjoy this,please.
When I ordered the book originally I thought that since it was marked with Lee Hall's name that he was co-authoring the book with Melvin Burgess. This is not the case. Lee Hall, to his EVERLASTING greatness wrote the screenplay to "Billy Elliot"! Melvin Burgess wrote a book for kids based on Lee Hall's screenplay. Though it is written in a style that children can enjoy, even I did.

Heartwarming but chastening
I’ve seen the musical on stage several times and watched the film more than once. This novelisation of the script stands on its own as a story. It tells the human story behind the miners strike and its aftermath and is worthy of an award in its own right. But it brings home the despair left behind in the wake of the battle of wills between Arthur Scargill and the Thatcher government.

Fantastic
Huge fan of the film and didn’t see the point of reading the book but after such a long time (after reading the brilliant Lost Witch by Burgess) it flicked up on recommendations. What a fabulous novel - superb story - fabulously written from many perspectives - accurate and true - subtle and brimming with hope.

Gripping
Easy to relate to having seen the film and stage versions .I lived through the great THATCHER depression and I'm not a fan of hers .Being on public domain site cannot say my thoughts of her.the book tells of a typical working class family's struggle to survive very well written and could not put my Kindle down.a must read

Superb
It's taken me a while to finally get around to reading this and all I can say is that it took too long to do so. Fantastic story, I couldn't put it down. Highly recommended.
