Ellie's Long Walk: The True Story of Two Friends on the Appalachian Trail

Having section hiked the A.T. earlier this year, I was looking for a good book to give as a gift to my eldest niece. I was nervous because my niece is in second grade and reads a grade level ahead of her class. However, I looked through this book and was thoroughly impressed with this book. What a perfect gift for her!

A lady wants to walk the trail and brings her dog, and they have one problem after another, none of which are related, and she achieves her modest but admirable goal. Episodic story with not much of a point, however, the illustrations are good, it's realistic, and it has a map showing all the states she walked through. A good way to "get" kids to learn the northeastern states, if you're into "getting" kids to learn stuff.

I bought the book to keep at my house for when the grandchildren come to visit, but the first night I read it to the five year old, over and over again, she insisted on taking it home. It was her new favorite book.

Wonderful story! I'm ordering several for grandchildren. A great story about how a dog grows up when faced with a huge challenge and how Flowers tries to match the challenge to the dog's strengths. Masterful storyteller, lovely illustrations, gripping story.

Very sweet

I bought the I pad version. I am having trouble when I turn the page I get the same page three times in a row. I stopped reading it as it is too aggravating.

I have read all of Pam Flower's books and enjoyed them. Great teaching book. The author visited to our school.
