Beautiful illustrations
My husband is from Sweden and introduced me to Elsa Beskow. Her stories might have lost something in translation, I never found the writing very engaging, but the ideas were wholesome and the illustrations were profoundly beautiful, inspiring my own illustrations. I had posters of her work all over my children's bedrooms.Mary Carlsson, author of Woodrow's Wings

Timeless
This book is a wonderfully creative story. The illustrations are classic. The story can be told over and over again with the adult and child both finding enjoyment. I hope to add more books by this author to my collection. I know that some books are timeles and children of all walks of life find delight in the story- this is that kind of book. I will only have books for children in my home that I love reading over and over-this is that kind of book.

My kids love this weird story so we read it often
My kids love this weird story so we read it often. As with many of the "waldorf recommended books" the story line is strange but cute none the less and it's just my adult opinion my kids love this story very much!

Perfect for my 4 year old
Very cute book. I didn't pay attention to the size of the book but I wasn't pleasantly surprised to receive the larger copy. We love Elsa Beskow books!

Wonderful book
My 5 7 year old sons love this book. A great read before visiting a lake or going fishing. Good for imagination and kindness. Her books are always written gracefully and illustrated beautifully.

Absolutely enchanting story for small children
This book is absolutely enchanting! I read it with my nanny-child who is a boy of three, he loved it completely and utterly! The message of the book is absorbed subconsciously as you read; it teaches unselfishness, empathy for others and the joy of being helpful; also that mistakes can be corrected. A young boy catches a curious fish and puts him in a jam jar in his room. But the little fish is sad and his relatives miss him so much they decide to grow feet and walk into the boy's bedroom to demand his return! It is very captivating and entertaining. The young boy feels contrite and runs back to the sea to put the little fish back in his home. There is a wonderful ending where the little boy learns to swim like a fish so he can see his new friend again.
