A great holster!
I bought the DeSantis Speed Scabbard for a daily-carry Ruger LCR. Those reviewers who complain that the holster is low quality because the leather is "cardboard thin" simply don't grasp the concept of concealed carry. Once you've chosen the caliber and capacity you want you should find the lightest and most compact weapon that meets your criteria. Wannabe pistoleros who buy hand cannons because they think it makes them cool will end up not carrying it at all because it's so uncomfortable. Extreme light weight is one of the reasons I purchased the LCR. I certainly don't want a holster that weighs almost as much as the gun. The Speed Scabbard is perfect. It is very well designed and made. It is molded precisely to the gun and holds it securely, yet is easy to draw from and reholster. The design pulls the butt in tightly to your body. Sure the leather is thin. That's the point!

Good value. Comfortable. Not a gut jabber
As a former ankle carry guy I decided recently to switch to a waist carry position but did not want an inside the pant holster. I am an average build middle aged man with a typical too large belly. This doesn't uncomfortably jab me in the gut. I have had it on for hours at a time while working, sitting, driving, walking, etc and it has never caused me problems. With it looping over two spots on a belt it helps to displace the weight of the gun and holster well. I have it on either end of a belt loop to distribute it even more. Is a little stiff tying to put gun mostly back into holster but some use and breakdown should help with that.

What you would expect
I’ve see. Some good review and some bad. Here’s my take:If you own any desantis holsters you know the quality you come to expect. That being said I don’t think people are realizing what they’re buying when they buy this holster. It’s called the “Speed Scabbard” because it’s meant to be drawn from quickly and comfortably. This holster does exactly that. The retention works perfectly and it’s when you clip it to your belt that you felt the retention set in.Back to the quality of leather; the quality of leather is what was expected from desantis and a holster called the speed scabbard. The leather is slightly more thin than you would expect but requires very little break in time. Leather is thin and hard because again, it’s meant to be drawn from quickly. Ive had holsters that were thick leather and required long break in times, this holster I could instantly strap to my hip and start using. Gave 4 stars because I feel like they could give a slightly better description as to what customers should expect from the holster and what it’s meant for. Other than that it’s a great holster for the money and works PERFECT on my Ruger LCRX 1.8” barrel for OWB concealed carry.

Excellent Fit for an LCR
Pros: The forward cant and height of the holster are perfect. The holster sits high and flat against your body. The thinness of there leather makes the holster that much more concealable yet it holds the LCR firmly. The purchase and re holstering is smooth yet the LCR sits firmly and deep enough to keep int secure.Cons: I believe this holster is made for the .357 magnum which is a little thicker because of the larger cylinder. The .327 Magnum DAO is a little looser and the .22 mag is even looser. They still sit deep enough to be secure.Overall I would STRONGLY recommend this holster because the quality is everything you would expect from Desantis especially with the .38,.327, and .357 Magnum LCR models. If I had an LCRX model I would get a thumb break retention strap only to protect your clothing from the hammer.Get one ... you will LOVE IT!

Would buy again and recommend to a friend .
I have purchased two of these holsters for concealed carry . Much more comfortable for an old guy like me than an IWB holster . Fits the gun well and is not too noticeable under my shirt .

Love DeSantis quality, BUT:
Loved the high ride, but this holster should be called the “Slow Draw”! Yes, I know leather needs a certain break-in period, but the draw from the holster was nearly impossible! You had to pull up, then forward, or was it forward then up?? See, I’d be dead for sure if I ever had to draw from this thing w/any speed!! What happened DeSantis???

Ruger LCR, every day, for one year
Absolutely no complaints, this holster does what it's supposed to with out exception. My Ruger LCR, short barrel exposed hammer .327 Federal, has rode on my hip every day, all day long, for the last year. It has stayed tight to my body, never let the handgun slip, but is quick to my hand with no interference when drawn. It still holds the gun tight today, the stitching and leather are holding up just fine.

Very cheap, not typical Desantis quality
I just bought a new LCR and (as with all new handguns) in search of the perfect holster. I own a few DeSantis rigs so had high hopes for this. The holster pictured is not the correct holster, this Speed Scabbard rig does not have a thumb break. The leather (if you can call it that) is very thin and brittle... it has the consistency of hardened cardboard. There is virtually no weapon retention at all which is concerning for an OWB holster... at least an IWB rig uses the tension of the waist for weapon retention. I def give this holster two thumbs down and will be returning it.
