Cupid the god of love, not a romance
This isn't a romance, though there's romance in it, it's a film about the fire of love which the god Eros(greek)/Cupid(roman) represents. It's the fire of creation and procreation at work in these characters, and they don't have an easy time of it. It is the fire of real love that unifies and that's what the film is about -- it's not a typical romance by any means, and that's typical of Eros/Cupido. Love is unsettling, frustrating, undoing while it breaks through what denies it so unification can occur. I found the climatic end quite satisfying. If you'd like a movie about Love finding It's way through the lives of a family while uprooting the weeds that prevent it, you'll enjoy this ride.,

A love story, an evolving family study
Great movie. All of the elements of a family movie. Family gatherings with conflict. A romance. Seeing the 4 sisters get along was great. My favorite scenes were the ones between Brenda Fricker and Mary Louis Parker. This is the story of a young woman who owns a vintage second hand shop that she bought after her mother gave her money. After many jobs she seems to have more peace in this one. She meets a man at her Father's Birthday party who falls in love with her despite her being in a relationship with another man. Their love story is beautiful but sad. This story shows how a father and daughter find their way back to each other after years of estrangement. This family did not find healthy ways to face the pain of alcoholism and death, if there is even one. However the story, in the right perspective is one to take away hope that any family conflict can be worked through and death can actually bring people together too. Emotional and introspective. Great seeing so many great actors and actresses together portraying a slice of family life.

What a waste of a talented cast
Good cast, bad movie. What a waste of talent, but hey, it's a paycheck. This movie is slow, boring, unbelievable, and depressing. It wouldn't get made today for all those reasons.I've been doing a deep dive into British period dramas, and I thought I'd switch to something lighter. Well, this wasn't it. The script was awful. Why exactly were the lead couple in love with each other? So weird.Bebe Neuwirth was the best part because she can bring up any script.Peter Gallagher did the best he could with the lame script.I liked Mary Louise Parker in "Weeds," but this part didn't do her justice.

About empathy and knowing another, in other words, about love.
One of the best of its genre, wonderful acting and a brilliant script. We are left to write the future for ourselves, but we are content because we can see the real work of family conflict and repair, of the growing insight of the damage that defensive distortions and trauma can cause. The arrival of a man capable of insight and love changes everything. We learn that In the best of relationships the sum is always greater than its parts, and in this movie that is the agent of change.

A true Hallmark Hall of Fame movie
This is a typical Hallmark Hall of Fame TV movie. I enjoyed the story for its twists and turns and the real life lessons it offers. Mary-Louise Parker and Peter Gallagher are both great and have real chemistry with each other. Coming from a family of seven girls I could relate to the family dynamics and a daughters need for a fathers approval. If you like Hallmark movies, this is a must-see.

very real
Another well done Hallmark Hall of Fame movie. This story takes us into situations that are common to real life in a family and on to the resolutions that come with understanding, honesty and forgiveness. There's a huge misunderstanding between Cate and her father that leads to hurt and antagonism. As the story unfolds, we have the inside view of why there is the misunderstanding and for many of us, we can apply the basic issue to our own life and family. Although there's no closure in one of the themes in the movie, there's a promising ending that will lead us to hope in whatever we might be dealing with in our own family. The actors are first-rate. The theme would be appreciated by older teens and adults. No profanity or sex.
