Save yourself
Opening an oyster means plunging a knife right at your hand, with only an oyster in the way. This is completely contrary to all knife safety advice and the Boy Scout manual, but it can't be avoided. In addition, the Oyster Gods will try to punish you, causing stabbing wounds and injecting shellfish toxins directly into your blood stream. The one time I tried to do without these gloves, just to open one oyster in a hurry, the shell broke and the knife went right through the break and into my hand. Coincidence? Of course not.Testing the gloves, and remember they are thin and flexible and not like a bulletproof vest, the very tip of any oyster knife will penetrate it just a bit and I suppose if you really jammed it hard into your hand it might even break the skin, but only barely at most it seems. The fabric is obviously strong and did not get cut through. The latex coating is quite grippy and easy to wash, and the gloves are comfortable. They would be fine for extended use and would be protective in a lot of sharp-tooled environments. They fit like other large sized gloves I have, so the size is predictable. These work, are good quality and fairly priced, so all five stars.

No more cut fingers!!
I do a lot of slicing, dicing, and shredding as the chef of Bill's Grille ([...]). I keep my knives razor sharp, which reduces cuts because the knife doesn't slip. However when I do get a cut its severe. My last injury, while cutting broccoli, cut my middle finger to the bone. I'd had it! I ordered these gloves and was surprised at how good they work. The Kevlar protects the fingers as advertised, but I was amazed at how flexible they are and the grainy surface of the Kevlar allows a good grip on the food. I can shred garlic and ginger closer to the end, saving product. When finished cutting I wash them like I wash my hands with soap and water and set them out to dry. Hygiene comes first. Never again will I pick up a knife without these gloves on.

Staying ahead of sharp things
Just going to secong several posts already here. I use a mandolin for preparing foods, and I collect swords that need to be maintained. Nothing is absolutely gauranteed to stop a slash or puncture in case of an accident, but these Kevlars provide some measure of safety and give you a chance to react to those accidents and maybe drop the trash before you're seriously harmed. No complaints using these. I bought the larges because I wear size 11 gloves and these fit me very well. Price was great and they were mailed fast.

Comfortable and protective!
Bought these and after reading reviews I went a size smaller than usual. I highly recommend this. Mine fit perfectly without leaving extra material sticking out. They are comfortable and easy to wipe clean. I have not tried to wash these yet and have not had need to. I use these with my meat slicer and cutting large slippery pieces of meat. I have even used while carving a turkey. I find these to be the best of these type of gloves that I have bought. The coating on the palm/fingers helps keep the juices of the meat from soaking in while the material on the back lets your skin breathe. Besides one slight miscut I have not had to test the protective function but on that one time it did not even break the coating.

2.5 - 3 Stars
I bought these for my job a while back but only got to use them recently.Whenever I have to work with machinery, wooden pallets, and tons of cardboard for several hours my hands get cut up, dry, and turn red. It is not pleasant for me so I wear gloves when possible. If I don't I know I could likely develop a skin condition like Eczema - which requires medical attention. It certainly does not look very manly for a guy to wear gloves while unpacking cardboard boxes but I deal with it.I have been trying different types of gloves and brands - rubber coated gloves(like these) are the best suited for an industrial environment when you need a good grip on objects/boxes and protection against wood and metal. This glove provided both grip and protection - but only for several hours of actual work. It developed a hole in the rubber/latex coating on the right hand thumb area after less than 8 hours of using it. The fabric/string knit shell is still intact but it won't provide much grip. The latex will likely completely strip off the thumb after 2 more hours of using it. I use these kind of gloves 2-4 hours a day. At this price this glove costs way too much money to only last 8-10 hours.I normally wear a man's size "L"(large) glove and this glove fit my hand fine but I would prefer it fit a little more "tighter" since it can slide around at times(when my hands get sweaty). The inner fabric can also become itchy after several hours. This is not an item I will be re-ordering.

A good way to keep hold of poultry.
Because of the size of the oven in the house were are renting, I was forced to spatchcock a turkey this year and was worried being able to keep a good grip on the turkey and about doing myself some serious injury. I did a lot of reading of reviews and finally decided to try this one. I used it both during a test run on a chicken and a 12lb turkey. It works well. I don't know that it's heavy enough to stop a determined cut with poultry shears but it does seem good enough to protect against the occasional slip. It is also very "grippy" and I had no trouble hanging on to the turkey as I cut it.There were some questions about washing these. I decided to just throw them into the washer by themselves with the low water setting and a small amount of bleach and they came through fine. I don't know how they would hold up if you did this every week but I don't need the gloves but a few times a year and I'm sure they will last years this way.

SAVED MY HANDS
I needed to move a heavy and super sharp window insert. These gloves had excellent grip and protected my hands without any problems. The window insert, however, had such sharp edges that every piece of clothing that rubbed against it got shredded. Worked as it should!!!
