A genuine must-have!
This book is fantastic! I own essentially ALL the RZM/JJF/Munin-Verlag photo-books on German forces, sepcifically the W-SS, and this book is a wonderful addition to that collection. The photos are large, clear and interesting in subject matter. I like the candid, less-posed shots in general, and this book has many of them! For anyone who collects works on the "Leibstandarte" this is a must-have. And for the price, this makes the book that much more attractive.(I purchased at the the pre-order price and am thrilled I did)The captions are rather basic, focusing it would seem, upon headgear (and to a lesser extent, tunics, tabs, etc,) moreso than anything else. The captions don't "tell a story" in terms of the fighting in Greece - so that might be an issue for someone looking for such a narrative. I don't find it at all problemetaic as that's not the purpose of this book, as far as I'm concerned.Of special note to me, is that this work is notably and commendably devoid of the obligatory rhetoric about Waffen-SS "atrocities" and so forth. Whatever one's personal opinion on that subject, it gets tedious at best to have these claims and disclaimers tossed in, often with no real supporting documentation, etc, in too many volumes on the the W-SS. Simply put, I cannot recommend this book enough! One of the best I've seen in some time.

Wow !!!
Usually when you pick up a book that is effectively a photo album you would expect to find it published by RZM or JJF who have really cornered the market on this type of book - that is until now. This offering is from Schiffer Publishing and is a large-format book (read coffee table size) which is printed on glossy paper for excellent photo reproduction. It has over 300 photographs taken in May 1941 by an SS-Kriegsberichter Mayer Miesbach , and shows the 1st Battalion, of the Leibstandarte as they advanced through Greece in 1941.The books photos are taken from two large format albums (titled "Balkanfeldzug 1941 mit der Leibstandarte SS Adolf Hitler) that came to light in 2004, and each volume held around 200 large photos. As this is a photo album there is very little narrative, apart from a one page short overview of the campaign and a one page colour map showing the movement of the Leibstandarte through Greece. The real joy of the book is the great photos which show everyday life of the Leibstandarte on campaign and were not numbered in sequence roll/frame. The editors have made every effort to name the place, individuals shown, uniforms and equipment. There is even a nice little section at the end reminiscent of the books "Then and Now" series which the authors have used photos from the time and taken colour photos of the same site today as a comparison. The usual suspects are shown in various poses, Dietrich, Witt, Staudinger, Meyer, Pleiss, to name a few, with shots of captured allied soldiers, civilians and equipment. Many of these are full page and as mentioned are of exceptional qualityHighly recommended book, one of the best in a long time and has a large number of photos I have not seen before

A photo album of rare quality
...as mentioned by others, this is basically a "photo album" of the Balkans/Greece campaign by the first battalion, LSSAH. More than a collection of pictures from Propaganda Kompanie photographers, the terse and helpful captions throughout have a details of uniforms, weapons, and identifies persons where significant. Having read Kurt Meyer's "Grenadiers", it shows the progress pretty much as described by Meyers. An excellent book. Not overflowing with detail in text, as the text is all in the pictures.

Excellent in every way!
As fars as I recall, there were about two photos which I had seen before; the rest were unpublished. That speaks for itself. It is also well written.

great book
selection of interesting pk rolls of films..... it just looks like they were shooting with today's i phone, it's natural..... showing us the way they were....far away a classical propaganda job with everything clean and perfect or those kind of negative selection of pictures were they have to be stick to the image of devil soldiers. it's almost normal. Particulary interesting too where the balkan population meets de soldiers, you can image the contrast. this book is not showing the front line, but more the motorised troops following the advance. Nice choice !

Limited Reference value
This is essentially just a reprint of a PK album from the Leibstandarte Archives. Although it's a nice opportunity to access such a rare album, I found the book a little disappointing on the whole. It is little more than a photo book and I found the contents a little repetitive. This is not a history of the Division's involvement in the campaign. It serves well as a uniform study of the Leibstandarte during this period but contains little in the way of vehicles and equipment.Publisher's odd choice of printing b&w photos in four colour process is unnecessary and annoying as it can often interfere with the clarity of the image. On certain levels this is a great addition to a Leibstandarte library, but I think it would help potential buyers to have a better idea of what they're buying.

Eye-catching historical compilation of rare photos
Fantastic photo history! Large clear pictures showing great detail of uniforms and equipment. Good overall summary of little-known operation in 1941.
