Very Helpful for my Drama and Acting Class

There are more than just words defined in this excellent tome. The author includes synopses of the plays, interesting notes about terms used for family members, and much, much more. You could not ask for a better reference book or resource about Shakespeare.

the book is vast and will take time to thoroughly explore but it appears to be what I was hoping to find...as for the delivery of the item, it was timely, the book arrived in excellent condition and there was even a thank you note for the order...so all is well..

Too general

This is a very helpful tool when reading Shakespeare. For those of you who enjoy the "No Fear" series, I recommend this guide to you because not all words have one simple definition, and paraphrasing Shakespeare is not the same as an exploration of terms in their literary and historical context.Another nice feature is the collection of terms in the back of the book, broken into multiple categories based on historical significance. For example, there is a section of terms devoted to the names of weapons mentioned in the plays. I also like the font used, it's very readable. Many definitions reference the act and scene in plays where the terms are used and in many cases how the term was used in the context of that scene.Although I enjoy the "No Fear" series, I am finding it more enjoyable to read the original text with this book on the side. I also recommend the new Spark Notes Shakespeare book that contains analysis of ALL plays and sonnets.

As an actor who performs Shakespeare all of the time, I highly recommend this book as an invaluable resource. It's less expensive than the OED and more up-to-date than the Onions' Glossary, although both have their own strengths. The foreword alone has helped me gain a better understanding of the way we analyze and interpret Shakespeare. If you're a fellow Shakespearean actor, an English student, or someone who would like to gain a better understanding of Shakespeare's works, check it out!

Although one can never get quite as much out of reading Shakespeare (except for the sonnets) as on can from seeing his works performed, most of us cannot see performances of many of the plays even once, much less regularly, so we can only read them. And since it was written over 400 years ago and the English language has lost much of its formerly extensive vocabulary, it is very helpful to have a lexicon that provides the reader with a better understanding of the story, characters, events, and, even, humor of these wonderful works.

There is nothing better than turn our abstraction capacity of understanding better and better. And when we talk about the works attributed to Shakespeare, these lovely and profound peaces of literature and its immense applicability to our daly lives, the benefits reach the sky of pleasure.Unhappily I’ve received this lovely book with a damage in one oh its corners

Excellent book. A marvel without a match.

I am a longtime Shakespeare fan and have often had difficulties with the differences between Shakespearian English and modern English. This book provides relief from my frustration. It's an enormous book, in both size and content, but if you want or need help with understanding Shakespeare's Elizabethan English, this is for you. It's worth the price.

It's a book that my professor has and values very much. It is really helpful, easy to navigate in and gives clear maps and resumés of the plays.It came on time and in good condition.Very happy to have it!
