Sterling's Gold: Wit and Wisdom of an Ad Man

Disappointed but amused
As another reviewer already mentioned, it is a compilation of lines from the actual show. It actually amused me, though, because ala Mad Men, it is a brilliant marketing scheme. Publish a book with content already created and paid for. It's like getting paid for the same material TWICE! Awesome! But, as far a a read, not so much. It will make a nice little addition to die hard Mad Men fans collection, but if you are expecting any kind of biography of Roger Sterling, you are out of luck. Too bad, because that would have made a great book. Then again, someone would have actually had to WRITE that. Touche Man Men, touche!

The large print giveth, and the small print taketh away.
I wanted to read Rogers "biography". Not a ten minute read of sound bites.I felt cheated. But i didn't realize it until i plunked down the money. HOWEVER I have it 4 starts because it was advertised cleverly, Don would be proud of how i fell for the "there is a sucker born every minute" hook.

Hilarious!
This small hard covered book is divided into various categories, with a selection of Roger's best 'one liners'. He's written an introduction (as Roger Stirling), however I would have liked to have read more from him in this dialogue. The one liners however, are exceptional. Now that I have the shows on Blue Ray, I'm rediscovering these quotes throughout the series, which is quite hilarious!

Short but lots of fun
A lot of the critical reviews for this book are because of it's brevity. There is one quote per page and some filler that results in 200 pages or so. However, in this case quality overcomes quantity, particularly if you are a fan of Mad Men. In watching, I always was amused by Roger Sterling's observations and witty remarks, but it's hard to remember them because there are so many. To have them all in one place is lots of fun. Some of the quotes are priceless, like "Have a drink, it will make me look younger," and "I'm being punished for making my job look easy."

Very funny, great for Mad Men fans
We bought this for a friend who adores the Roger Sterling character from Mad Men and quotes him. He LOVED it! The only thing that would make it better is if it included some of the best lines from later seasons. But unless they re-issue one that covers the whole series, this has some brilliant lines that will make you laugh and remember Roger saying them.

You’re buying a book cover
I’m not going to complain about what’s inside the book like I’ve seen in some of the other reviews. I straight up purchased the book cover. I just wanted it in my house. It was in the show for a split second and that’s really all I wanted. I got it!

Not quite what I was expecting...
...which were Roger's witticisms AND a more in-depth exploration of the character. This is essentially just lines from the series with a few photos. A good way to be reminded of the excellence of the script, but no more than that. I read it in about 25 minutes. Borrow it from your library or record the series and jot them down yourself!

A great $.99 book!
This is a fantastic $.99 Kindle book!Unfortunately, the going rate at this time is $9.99 -- and at that price, save your money. This is a collection of the Mad Men character Roger Sterling's pithy one-liners from the television series, and a few of them still managed to make me smirk (even without John Slattery's vocal brass to deliver them.)It's a shame, this book could have been a great complement to the character and the entire series, but it falls short on a dozen different levels. For less than the cost of this book you could sign-up for a month's membership to Netflix and burn through the entire series to see and hear ALL of Roger Sterling's lines delivered in glorious full-color and stereo sound by the man himself.

Brevity is the soul of wit
This is a nicely designed package for all lovers of the great Mad Man series. I would not say there is a lot in it, but some of these one and two liners are gold.

Not what it appears...
Was really disappointed with this. The description and title are misleading as they suggest that this book contains something of Roger's autobiography that we hear snippets on throughout the series. What is actually contains are a few quotes from Mad Men (in massive font - so don't expect too many), and some pictures. Sorry, but it's rubbish.

Wit and wisdom???
bought a used copy as it certainly wasn't worth buying at full price ! Very little content and not much wit or wisdom as far as I could see

It's a Mad Ad world
Funnier and strangely truer than you might think - antidote to all the aphorisms contained in the accepted 'text books' by Name gurus; if you like Charles Handy's take on business more than Drucker, Peters et al you might something here that fires up your brain? I Ching like maxims for you to use as inspiration rather than parroting . Or just Machiavelli for Generation X ?
