Some good history points, but a little confussing
I partly read and parly told this story to my preschool class. It was a little confussing when I would read the made up parts of the story and then had to tell the kids that this part probably wasn't true. This was the only book that I could find on the internet about George Washington's that was appropriate for a preschool class. I would love to see some accurate history picture books written for the preschool/kindergarten age level!

Book review
Great read aloud book! I used it for biographies

Bad storyline
This story is borderline incoherent. It jumps all over the place, and makes almost no sense. The illustrations are sometimes very good, other times confusing.

At last, Mr Washington rejoins the human race
George Washington must have been more likable and human than the chilly marble images let on, or who would have followed him across that crazy river? Margaret McNamara and Barry Blitt give us back the Founding Father as Floundering Kid. It's not a cynical take on the great man, though very droll; it's un-awed yet kindly. American history, as usually taught, in its chest-thumping brow-beating way, can make us feel sometimes that the less we hear about the Fathers, the better. But having read this book to my own kids, I will take more pleasure in George's birthday henceforth; and so, I hope, will they.

Great young George Washington story
Perfect for budding historians! What a great way to incorporate the best known stories about George Washington against the backdrop of his 7th birthday.
