Westcott KleenEarth iPoint Evolution Electric Pencil Sharpener, Gray

I was getting so tired of breaking the points on my expensive pencils. I did some research and landed on this one. I have loved it but only after a few trial and error events. I was pressing to hard on the pencil when I inserted it in the sharpener. Loose pressure works so much better. I keep it empty - I empty it at about the half full mark. Also I clean it often with a Q-tip & alcohol, you would not believe the buildup on the blades happen so often. Other than those couple "do's & don'ts" it is a great sharpener.

Gears are stripped out and makes a clacking / whining sound. sharpener does not turn, it starts but stops with the slightest load.Worked great and got only general household use (three kids in school), not office or commercial use. Should have lasted longer for the money.Because we love the way it functions, we wanted to try another one, but not the recycled version. After reading several other reviews and looking at the X-Acto school pro sharpener, we bought that model. It comes with a 10 year warranty as was priced only slightly higher than this unit (about $40). We actually bought a "used" one from Amazon that was really a new unit with minor packaging damage for just under $30, so more or less the same price as this unit.

I bought this sharpener for my office because my clients color alot with colored pencils. Unfortunately, the sharpener does not work with colored pencils. It makes a noise but the blades don't even turn. It works great for regular #2 pencils but that's not what I bought it for. It also took a long time to ship (because it is not Prime). Disappointed.

This does not work as well as the more expensive School Smart pencil sharpener that I have. It also does not work as well as the iPoint that it was replacing. I am not sure if it is a quality control issue with the blades. It sharpens okay, but for a sharp tip, we have to use a different electric pencil sharpener.

i should have stayed with my college major - industrial design! is there no one in the product design world that asks how the product is used before putting it out there?!!? i bought it because it one of too too few that are set up to insert the pencil from top down - bravo! - the sharpener does not slip away from you!! BUT!! most designers use colored pencils - which the blades cannot handle - not enough power and it stalls out - i gave it away

Used one that belonged to my co-worker. Excellent sharpener. When i received mine, I immediately sharpened 50 pencils of varying quality (i.e. "brand name" to cheap). Only one pencil (a cheapy) didn't meet my satisfaction. Since the pencils were new, I had to press a little more to avoid the automatic stopping mechanism. If you push too long, the tip will become extremely pointy--which is not desirable when doing math. I am a teacher, and I probably will not let my students use it because I don't think it can withstand their handling. It is lightweight, has a small footprint, and sharpens efficiently.

It's easy to use. The kids fight over who gets to use it first. It's so much easier to sharpen pencils with this than manually. Especially at the beginning of the school year when they have to bring in 6 dozen sharpened pencils. No more sore hands.Update: It's been a year and 10 days since I ordered this, and it's now no longer working. Wasn't used everyday, just when the kids needed their pencils sharpened for homework. Pretty disappointed.

So far, I am pleased with this pencil sharpener. I like the design, and that it is made with recycled materials. It is very easy to empty, and creates a good point. The operation seems kind of "sticky" at first, but you get accustomed to how it works after a few tries.
