The Lost Art of Handwriting: Rediscover the Beauty and Power of Penmanship

All-Out AMAZING
I have purchased three copies of this book and here's why: I am an amateur letterer / chalkboard artist that is (mostly) self-taught, aside from a few pdf worksheets I downloaded off of Etsy or whatever. I follow a TON of lettering accounts on Instagram to try and learn new methods / styles, and Brenna's style has always been one of my absolute favorites!! So when she announced she'd be releasing a book this past January, I couldn't slam the pre-order button fast enough. After 3 eager months of waiting, it arrived!! I was immediately hooked. The worksheets are so fun and easy to use, and they're perfectly intermixed with her writing blurbs and instructions - great book for people that want to learn from step 1, or just go straight to the practice sheets! Then my dog chewed up my copy after I got about halfway through so I got wine drunk and cried to my boyfriend about how I "didn't have anything fun to do anymore" (he really appreciated that). I had to order another copy (I was thinking about doing so ANYWAY, because I was loving it so much that I wanted to start from scratch!) and honestly, we don't deserve this price. The book is so well-made, the paper, binding, and hardcover so beautiful and durable (except for puppy teeth but that's an outlier), the content so wonderful and enjoyable, that this thing is an absolute STEAL and a MUST for anyone that enjoys handwriting, whether you want to practice lettering as a craft or if you just want to write prettier. I've always loved working on my handwriting and have done so practically since I could write, but this book has improved it even more than I thought possible!!So I ordered another copy and then I thought, my best friend's birthday is coming up! Bingo, present in the bag. She loves it too! She's not a lettering hobbyist like me, but has always been similar to me in loving to craft her personal handwriting into the best it can be.Honestly I think everyone should have a copy of this book. It's so relaxing to use and has relevance for everyone - from the chicken-scratch guy that just wants to make their writing legible to the avid lettering guru that wants to learn new styles and tricks. I have bought three copies so far and I will probably buy more as I finish my current one. THANK YOU BRENNA!!!

Excellent resource for penmanship! Much appreciation for this book!
A Wonderful Reminder of my lifelong passion for cursive handwriting. I was taught cursive handwriting in second grade and I have had an obsession for clear, concise handwriting ever since. Plus, I was a teacher's daughter so it was mandatory I learn the proper skills for writing. I was dismayed when I learned "Penmanship or Cursive Writing" was no longer taught in school. I do not not understand this. Legible handwriting is a vital life skill in my opinion. This book is a very pleasant read of the how and why penmanship is so powerful! I read this book with Kindle Unlimited but plan to purchase my own copy. Love it! 💜

Great practice
As an adult who just doesn’t have great writing, I bought this to help me practice and even learn new tips and tricks. I can say my handwriting has improved, and I hope to continue to see it do so!

Content: Great. Bound Format Worksheets: Not Ideal
The content is great. However, as another reviewer mentioned, the binding makes the worksheets difficult to navigate. Traditionally, your handwriting would be on a piece of paper laying flat on a writing surface. Since the worksheets are in a bound book, as you are writing (particularly as you get to the middle of the book), the slope of the pages and spine binding make it difficult to properly form the letters while navigating a not-flat writing surface. I have tried cracking the spine and flattening the pages as much as possible, but it does little to improve the flattening of the pages. It would be ideal to have the worksheets perforated to be able to be removed and worked flat. OR have a link to downloadable worksheets to be able to print on flat paper. I have actually downloaded a lined paper template and plan to work the exercises outside of the book for this reason. For a book that is supposed to improve handwriting, the format matters.

Great exercises for cursive writing
I am brushing up on the cursive writing skills I abandoned over my lifetime and wanted to get back into writing in cursive that could actually be read by others. This book has excellent exercises for anyone wanting to improve how they write like any adult should in presenting themselves to others. i use a yellow note pad to do the exercises on while I drink my morning coffee.

Amazing
I am severely dyslexic and my penmanship has always been atrocious. I didn't even really learn to write with any literacy until the fourth grade, and avoided any fine art endeavors because of the criticism I got over my handwriting. I am 49 now and bought this book on a lark. I used an hour a day and worked through it and can legitimately say no book has had such an impact on my every day life as this one did. I not only have legible and even pretty penmanship when I write slowly now, I took up pointed pen calligraphy and watercolors. I don't know why the instruction clicked as an adult and with the book but it allowed me to build a skill I always wanted to have with a level of proficiency I never imagined. It was such a success that when I ordered the practice pages for this book last week, my husband asked for a copy and my little sister bragged on my handwriting last week! If you practice, this book is amazing.

not a good book to help improve your writing!
So I bought this book because my cursive is really really bad. I would expect a book like this would start you out with baby steps, but instead it just has you copy or trace sample letters, words or sentences… it provides no guidance on how to properly write the letters; just has you trace their letters and ‘make up your own.’ … if you’re looking to learn how to write fancy and formal for things like wedding invitations, this may work. But if you’re trying to get back to the basics, this boo gets an F!

Hermoso!!
The media could not be loaded. El libro está muy bonito, los ejercicios fáciles y la explicación bastante buena, estaría genial que estuviera en español.

FANTASTIC! Highly reccomend!!!
Taught myself to handwrite with this book in less than a month. LOVE how it teaches, love the practice pages and that it shows letter variations so you can choose what style works best for you. Also lots of ways to have fun with handwriting and be stylish if you want. SO much in here that was never covered in school. I went from TERRIBLE illegible writing, and not remembering what certain cursive letters looked like to having lovely fantastic penmanship I'm proud of! I can even read hand writing a lot better now! I will recommend this book to the end of my days!

Bringing joy to the art of handwriting
I recently became very fascinated with fountain pens and eventually wanted to learn how to improve my cursive writing. This book really helped me to slow down and think with my hands. It not only opened my eyes to the beauty of the written form but is also making me become more observant to the world around me.

Handwriting for adults
Who knew that a book about handwriting would be so fascinating and informative! In this book you not only learn how to improve your penmanship, but you also learn little snippets about the history of the alphabet, how different letterings evolved and ultimately how to create your own writing style.
