Great concept, poor execution.
This was the first watch I purchased in 20 years. I don't wear watches. I've never had a reason too because my cell phone tells me what time it is (along with a million other bits of information). However, when I saw this watch I realized it was much MORE than a watch and could be very useful in ways that my cell phone could not.It is:1. A watch2. Rope3. Compass4. Whistle5. FlintThat's awesome! All those features in one package, looks good, and a neat conversation piece all rolled into one.My enthusiasm faded the moment I opened the package. This is a GREAT concept for a watch, it's just very poorly executed! Here is my gripe list for all of you considering this watch:1. What good is a survival watch if it's not waterproof? This was a non-starter for me and the number one reason why I returned it.2. It doesn't light up. How are you supposed to see the time (or the compass) at night? They didn't even bother painting the hour and minute hand with that glow-in-the-dark paint you typically see on cheap watches so you could at least see it momentarily in the dark.3. The cord is held together by the melted ends. That makes sense to keep the cord from unraveling, but all it takes is some slight wear and tear, or if you get it wet, and it will fall apart. Oh wait, you can't get it wet because it's not water proof, not even water resistant. So, make sure you take it off every time you need to wash your hands, or go swimming, or take a shower... but I digress.4. The compass is cheap. What more can I say, it's very cheap and takes a lot of balancing and tapping, then some more balancing to get it to find North. Honestly, if I was lost and had to rely on this compass to find the direction there is only a 70% chance of it being accurate.5. There is no way to adjust it to fit your wrist. One size fits all.I'd be happy to pay more for a watch with the above issues fixed. There is a market for a high quality survival watch.Like I said, this is a great concept, just poorly executed. They should consider making a "premium" version for those who want an impressive timepiece that can do more than your cell phone.****I always enjoy reading the one star reviews of products to see "who hated it and why".Of course, there is always the chorus of people giving one star reviews because they received a broken unit.Crap happens, get an exchange and then write a real review. Nobody's perfect. Get over it.But other times, you can see a trend in the "one star reviews" that point to a real underlying issue with the design or functionality.Hope this is helpful!

Waste of money
Waste of money. I wore it one time and during the hike the pin broke and the watch fell right off of my wrist onto the trail. So I contacted the seller through Amazon email and never got any sort of response. Poorly made product sold by a individuals that don't stand behind their product.

several issues...
I'm surprised at all the very positive reviews. Don't get me wrong, it is not terrible, but it could be much better. Here the pros and cons:Pros:The watch face itself looks really nice. The whistle works well, and is great to have on the watch in case you get lost or need help. The fire starter will probably work in an emergency, and is also nice to have.It has a very shiny back that can easily be used as a small mirror. It seems to keep time well.It seems very durable, except for the compass (see below).Cons:Its very bulky, and because of this is not very attractive. The clips in the back (which hold the fire starter) are enormous which makes it very difficult to put the watch on, and it is very hard not to badly pinch my skin in the process. Granted, maybe I got a size too small, but it seems to fit my wrist alright once on.However, that brings me to my next gripe. It's not at all adjustable. I know that if I had gotten a size up it would have been too loose. The compass is useless. It seemed to work a little at first, then it became increasingly hard to get it to point north. After taking it mountain biking which inevitable shook the compass, it will not lie flat enough to point north no matter how long I spend tilting it in different directions. The plastic encasing the compass either was scratched on delivery or became scratched the first day of wearing it.On a more minor note, the watch clicks loudly.I just noticed that another reviewer commented that it is not water resistant. I haven't tested this yet, but a survival watch that can't get wet is absurd.Bottom line: Its a great concept, but it falls short of what I expected. Even for the relative affordable price, I would not recommend it. Its way too bulky, difficult and painful to get on, and made with cheap materials that in some cases do not function.EDIT: Its better than i thought. I boosted it up to 3 stars. After using it for a while, the compass fixed itself and I was actually able to navigate with it. However compared to other compasses it is off by a couple degrees. Also I learned how to carefully put it on without pinching my skin. I also had it in the pouring rain for 2 days and it did not get damaged by the water.

Cheap
This was a silly impulse buy on my part. The watch is super cheap and very bulky. Haven't worn it once. I'll probably give it to my 7 year old son as a toy.

not water proof
Watch looks great and has some awesome features. However, it is not water proof, which does not seem fitting at all for a survival watch.

Funky, cool watch that unfortunately isn't water-proof.
Nifty little watch. The downside, it's not water-proof.
