NOVA: Building Chernobyl's Mega Tomb DVD

If you ever had an interest in the Chernobyl nuclear accident, you've got to get this video! It shows the ingenious way that the constructors came up with to seal up the damaged reactor and building that housed it. Very detailed and really opened my eyes to the size of the disaster and how it has been managed.

People who still want to live happily next to a power reactor--at least how they have been designed here and in Russia--should watch this fascinating documentary. Megatomb is the right title. The thing is a monster engineering project built to cover up a monster engineering project gone wrong. About the latter, there is a great book about the whole disaster told by a Russian physicist who was in the know about the coverup. Another great DVD is The Russian Woodpecker about the over-the-horizon radar located next to the Chernoble reactor. See that then this and read the books and try to sleep. Good luck.

I love everything in regards to educating me about Chernobyl. What made me happiest is that nations from all over the world was assisting in this urgent task.

The documentary does not dumb down the engineering challenge so it might bore some viewers with details. I love engineering, design, and monumental challenges. This is an amazing, and on-going, story that impacts our entire planet.

When I first saw this, the quality of the program AND the engineering of this project both blew me away. If you want to see a top notch presentation about one of the most incredible engineering jobs ever, then buy this DVD.

I bought this dvd and was really looking forward to seeing it unfortunately it’s not going to happen. Because it’s not Region 2 it did not say what it was ,it’s obviously region 1 but I have now opened the disc . I wonder why anyone would send a region 1 dvd to the uk it beets me .

I didn't mind buying this in NTSC as I have a multi-region DVD player, however for those with just a Region 2 (UK/Europe) player, it won't work for you I'm afraid, so to avoid any disappointment, you should check your machines compatibility before purchase.With all that said, it's a well produced and informative documentary on the '2nd fix' which, if you're considering purchasing, I'm pretty sure you'll enjoy.
