When I moved into my own place, I got a lot of hand me down knives from my mom, who had kindly stored them away for me from her last move. The problem was, they were all on the older side and quite dull. The first time she came to visit me, she poked fun at the fact that she couldn’t even slice easily through a cucumber while she was preparing a salad.I decided it was time to buy a knife sharpener, but I didn’t have a lot of extra money to spend on a fancy electric item like that. Then I found this sharpener, which fit my needs perfectly! The price on this hand-held sharpener was just right, but even better, it did a great job, and it is so simple to use!The sharpener arrived on time in just a day or two, and it is clearly of good quality. The grip fits your hand perfectly, and two no-slip pads on the bottom of the sharpener help keep the sharpener steady when using it. It has three options for producing the sharpest blade-- course, medium, and fine, which are clearly labeled on the side of the sharpener. All you do is drag your knives through each one, starting with the course option, then medium, then finally the fine option to produce a very sharp blade. You don’t need a lot of pressure when doing the sharpening. The knife’s own weight as it drags through the sharpener seems to be plenty to get the job done. Has the same amount of 3 part sections like the older model to sharpen dull knives at any stage they are in. Simple directions, good packaging, good size. Now for the pros and cons.Pros: With this new version, the words are engraved right below each slot, so you never forget which slot is which. A good addition on the update since the previous model had only #1, 2 and 3 (dull, medium, fine). Another positive is the design. Holding it feels better than the previous model...even though both are very good. This new design is a solid rectangular design so there is more base hitting the counter and a rounded handle for easier gripping. Again, both designs are great when it comes to holding, I just think this one feels more sturdy on the counter. Another good feature is the height. This one is higher than the previous which means you have more room to saw away on a knife without the concern of hitting the counter. Truthfully, if you're hitting the counter with the knife while you sharpen with either one of these designs...you have more issues than a dull knife.Cons: The new model only has those engraved words on one side...which i would think not everyone is right handed like myself...some will hold the tool with left hand and sharpen their knives with right hand, which means they will never see the words reminding them which slot does what. Not a big thing but words on both sides would be better. Another con is the size of the sharpening section area. With this new model, it seems the size...and weight...are smaller and lighter than the previous version, which had a slow incline as you got closer to the handle. This new version is flat in and square in the sharpening zone, and, i could be wrong, but it seems like the stones inside the new one are shorter than the previous model. If so...that's another draw back.All-in-all...you can't really go wrong with either version. Both are good. The customer service seems very good with friendly dialog, and the products come with a warranty. 4 stars for this one only because of some of the Cons. enjoy.

Needed a cheap sharpener this unit is nice to hold works great and looks good on the counter, three different slots to run the knife through to make a nice edge, cleans up easy
