Each plastic ball contains a small high surface area piece of foam. Along with the surface shaping of the ball, this provides a lot of available surface area for the bacteria colonies that do the work of cleaning the chemicals from the water. (Ammonia and Nitrite) I am using these along with foam, filter wool and ceramic balls to provide a comprehensive four stage filtration system for my guppy tanks.

This product was advertised as fish pond outside filter bio balls. No way could you use them outside. They are only for aquqriums

I ordered these for my set up on my Boyu top filter as the original size was to big.They work great on collecting waste from the tank water before it goes the system again and they're so easy to clean, as i give them a good wash in my fish water i remove.

So small you you would at least need about 30 packs to fill a pond filter, probably more.Total waste of time.

I used the product in the filter box last stage section for the outlet port, found it works well there, plus they are very easy to clean.

Arrived on time and product (36mm) as described. Quality looks good, with sponge inside in tact and is just what I need for my pond filter.
